Lady Bears travel to Hart Co. and Ballard Co. for holiday tournaments

The Lady Bears were involved in two pre Holiday events. Last Saturday the Lady Bears traveled to Hart Co. High School for the one day Hart Co. Classic. After falling the night before in overtime to Ohio Co. In which a valiant comeback effort came up just short many wondered how the Lady Bears would respond having two games the next day. The Lady Bears responded well by going 2-0 and bringing home the first place trophy from the event. First the girls defeated Louisville Brown 49-21 as the Lady Bears used pressure defense to force their opponent into many turnovers. Allie Easley in just her second game of the season since returning from a shoulder injury gave the Lady Bears some much needed scoring from the guard position and was the leading scorer with 13 points
Chloe Flener 10 points
Callie Cardwell 10 points
Next the Lady Bears faced the Host School Hart Co and the Lady Bears wasted no time taking early command of the game leading 13-7 after one quarter as Chloe Flener had a strong first qtr. The second qtr saw the Girls open the lead up to 33-17 by the half. Strong second qtr by Allie Easley was key.
The second half saw Hart Conty play with much more defensive energy and sharp shooting from 3 point range to trim the lead to 44-37 after 3 quarters. The fourth quarter was more of the same as Hart County continued to claw back into the game and by the end they were leading by 2 points after free throws with 20 seconds remaining. After getting the ball into the front court Coach Bivens called a timeout. After in bounding the ball Hart County did a good job denying the ball into the post Callie Cardwell received a pass into the corner looking for her shot where Hart County tried to trap Callie quickly passed the ball to Cheyenne White who was open on the wing and she hit the 3 pointer with 6.7 seconds remaining to give the Lady Bears a 1 point win 52-51 over Hart Co. These were the only points White scored on the day as she was battling through a foot injury   A big second half from Addison Hall helped her lead the Lady Bears on scoring with 13 Chloe Flener added 12 and Allie Easley with 11.

Ballard Memorial Tourney
The Lady Bears traveled to Ballard Memorial High School Monday, Dec. 21st for the Lady Bomber Christmas Classic.

Monday night at 6:30 the girls took to the floor to take on a 5-2 Crittenden County team. The Lady Bears came having won their last two games and the new found confidence served them well vs the Lady Rockets.
The first quarter was well played by both teams and after the first the Lady Bears trailed but just by 2 at 13-11. The game continued to be evenly matched as both defenses limited their opponents strengths as halftime came with again the Lady Bears trailing by 2 at 18-16.
In the third quarter the Lady Bears were able to begin to take control of the game as they got balanced scoring from both the inside and outside and used a combination of a 1-3-1 zone and man to man defense to frustrate Crittenden. After the three quarters the Lady Bears took a 34-25 lead into the 4th quarter. The Lady Bears continued to hold the led and Crittenden could get no closer than 6 points but the Lady Bears executed down the stretch and made enough free throws at the end to secure a 49-42 win
Chloe Flener led with 16 points
Allie Easley added 11
Callie Cardwell 8
Addison Hall 5
Kasidy Graham 4
Maddy Murphy 3
Cheyenne White 2
The second game (Tuesday 6:30pm) saw the Lady Bears take on Joppa-Maple Grove, Illionois and the Lady Bears never trailed as they dominated the lesser talented team. The Lady Bears built a 44-18 lead after three quarters backed by hot shooting from Senior Callie Cardwell from the outside. Coach Bivens didn't play a starter any of the 4th quarter which allowed all of the Lady Bears freshman to get some much needed varsity experience which led to 8 different Lady Bears get into the scoring column as the final score ended up at 50-37.

Scoring:
Callie Cardwell 13
Chloe Flener 9
Karson Inscoe 6
Dixie Garnier 6
Maddy Murphy 5
Cheyenne White 5
Kasidy Graham 4
Kadi Hunt 2

The third and final game of the tourney had to be cancelled due to approaching severe weather threatened to produce tornadoes in the Paducah area. Athletic Director Ryan Emmick and Coach Bivens made the decision to leave mid day Wednesday which proved to be very wise.
The Lady Bears won't be in action again until next Saturday, Jan. 2nd at home vs Grayson County which is the first game of a girl/boy double header at 6:00pm in their first district game of the season.
