Kentucky Farm Bureau Launches KY Farmland Transition Initiative to Address Loss of Farm Acreage

LOUISVILLE, KY – Today, Kentucky Farm Bureau (KFB) announced the launch of its new Kentucky Farmland Transition Initiative (KFTI). The KFTI is a strategic project focused on helping farm families find ways to keep their acreage in active agricultural production as they consider the future of that land.

The need for efforts like the KFTI increases each year, but that importance was highlighted when the recently released 2022 USDA Census of Agriculture revealed that Kentucky lost 17,000 farms and 1.4 million acres of farmland over the last 20 years.

Andy Beshear highlighted further growth in Kentucky’s manufacturing industry as Gracious Living KY, a manufacturer and distributor of consumer products, announced plans to expand its Butler County operations with a nearly $9.8 million investment creating 50 new full-time jobs.

Morgantown PD makes Drug Arrest

On April 3, the Morgantown Police Department received reports of a suspicious vehicle at the Butler County Extension office, believing the operator may be intoxicated. Upon arrival, officers made contact with Lisa Neighbors of Morgantown. Officers could smell the odor of marijuana coming from Neighbors' vehicle. As officers began searching the car, Neighbors attacked Mooneyhan, grabbing patrol officer L. Mooneyhan's shirt collar, and would not let go, trying to prevent him from searching. Officer Mooneyhan deployed his tazer, and officers arrested Neighbors. Charges are as follows:

Kentucky State Police Conducts Death Investigation in Edmonson County

BROWNSVILLE, Ky. (April 2, 2024) – At approximately 2:40 a.m. the Kentucky State Police Post 03 Bowling Green received a call from Brownsville Police Department requesting assistance with a suspicious death. Troopers responded to the residence located on Carder Street. 

During a preliminary investigation Troopers located Harold K Hendrick, 56, of Oakland, Carrie H. Canady, 44, of Bowling Green, and William D. Payne, 37, of Bowling Green unresponsive inside of the residence. They were pronounced deceased at the scene by the Edmonson County Coroner.

With the 2024 Kentucky General Assembly in its closing days, the Butler County School District is in line to secure a huge funding win due to an appropriation in House Bill 1, which will fund state government for the next two years.  The measure has been sent to the governor, who is expected to sign it into law.

Hocker Promoted to Lieutenant Colonel

Lieutenant Colonel Edwin "Andy" Hocker

Major Edwin "Andy" Hocker was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel on March 16 at Western Kentucky University.

LTC Hocker began his career as an 88M in the 2123rd in 2001. LTC Hocker received his commission in the Ordnance Corps from Western Kentucky University in 2007. 

His military education includes the Ordnance Officer Basic Course at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MD, the Combined Logistics Captains Career Course at Fort Lee, VA, and the Command General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, KS.
