FRANKFORT— The Kentucky Senate advanced an amended bill Tuesday that would prohibit COVID-19 vaccines from being required for employment, professional licenses, receiving medical treatment or student enrollment and activities.Senate Bill 295’s sponsor, Sen. Lindsey Tichenor, R-Smithfield, said the release of the vaccine ushered in an unprecedented overreach of the government by requiring a “novel medical product to be forced on people just to participate in society.”

This Week at the State Capitol

Senate President Robert Stivers, R-Manchester, signs a bill on the Senate floor Friday.

FRANKFORT, Ky. (March 22, 2024) — Lawmakers are stacking bills and counting votes as they make a final push to pass legislation out of the chambers and over to the governor’s desk in the remaining days of the 2024 legislation session. The Kentucky General Assembly is scheduled to gavel out for a veto recess next week. That leaves only four more days to tighten the screws on several prominent bills before lawmakers adjourn for the break.

With the KHSAA Sweet 16 Tournament set to begin one week from today (Thursday), Butler County's section of tickets go on sale at 1:00 pm EST, 12:00 CST - TODAY, THURSDAY, MARCH 14.   The opening game for Butler County is set for Thursday, March 21st at 12:30 p.m.

KY GENERAL ASSEMBLY: Senate passes budget-related bills

Sen. Christian McDaniel, R-Ryland Heights, speaks Wednesday on the Senate floor. McDaniel, chair of the Senate Appropriations and Revenue Committee, gave an overview of budget-related legislation, House Bill 1, House Bill 6 and House Bill 263.

The Senate advanced three budget-related bills with bipartisan support Wednesday as legislators look toward the next two-year spending cycle for state government.All three bills – House Bill 1, House Bill 6 and House Bill 263 – received unanimous approval from the Senate Appropriations and Revenue Committee earlier in the day. The Senate approved HB 1 with a 38-0 vote, House Bill 6 with a 37-1 vote and HB 263 with a 37-1 vote in the afternoon.
