Butler County's Maggie Drake Attends KFB's Institute for Future Ag Leaders

LOUSIVILLE-– Maggie Drake of Butler County recently returned home from Kentucky Farm Bureau’s (KFB) Institute for Future Agricultural Leaders (IFAL). A total of 90 high school students from around the state attended the five-day summer leadership conference.

New CPE report shows public colleges & universities making gains in enrollment & retention

Kentucky’s public colleges and universities made significant gains in undergraduate enrollment and retention, according to the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education’s latest progress report. Enrollment at the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) climbed 6.5% from fall 2022 to fall 2023, from 73,956 to 78,771 students. Undergraduate enrollment at public universities was up 1.6% over the same period, from 93,926 to 95,472 students.

Fireworks are fun, but they can be dangerous

The city of Morgantown has also posted posted its local fireworks ordinance.While it wouldn't feel like the Fourth of July without fireworks, it's important to remember that all fireworks, even sparklers, can be dangerous.

Armed suspect allegedly pointed a handgun at police Outstanding drug-related warrants apparently resulted in the arrest of a Russellville man on Saturday night  at the McDonald's Restaurant in Morgantown.

Escaped BC Jail work crew inmate captured in Logan County

Butler County Jail had a walk-off inmate escape from an inmate work crew job detail on Friday, June 28. This inmate escaped near the Butler/Muhlenberg County lines near Highway 431 and 949. The inmate - James Michael Robinson -  is from Muhlenberg County.  He is a white male, 6'3, 180 lbs, brown hair, with some brown facial hair. He was wearing light-colored denim pants and an orange shirt.

WLBQ "Catfish" stolen from roof of the station

At approximately 10:06 p.m. on Friday, June 21, five individuals (two females and three males) apparently climbed up on the roof of WLBQ in Morgantown , cut down the "stringer" of stuffed catfish that the station uses for decoration during the Green River Catfish Festival and Independence Day holiday, and took one of the catfish.

Cannabis users are at increased risk of severe Covid, study finds

Use of cannabis, commonly called marijuana, is linked to increased risk of serious illness for those with Covid-19. So says a study in the American Medical Association journal JAMA Network Open by researchers at the Washington University in St. Louis.
