New study finds smoking & vaping dual use increases lung cancer risk

People who use electronic cigarettes and smoke traditional cigarettes are more likely to develop lung cancer than people who just smoke, according to a new study. The Ohio State University study, published in the Journal of Oncology Research and Therapy, found that vaping combined with cigarette smoking was eight times more common in the cases with lung cancer than the control subjects, and the risk of developing lung cancer was four times higher among those who combined vaping and cigarette smoking than those who only smoked.

FRANKFORT— Counties are struggling to fund jails, according to county jailers, judge-executives, and other stakeholders. A presentation on the financial burden county jails have on local governments was given to the Interim Joint Committee on Local Government on Monday. Kentucky Association of Counties (KACo) Executive Director Jim Henderson said the fiscal impact jails have on counties is challenging and complex.

Bryant Appointed to National Leadership Position on Agriculture and Rural Affairs

 WASHINGTON – National Association of Counties (NACo) President James Gore appointed Butler County, KY, Magistrate Dillon Bryant to a one-year term as Agriculture and Food Safety Subcommittee Vice Chair of the NACo Agriculture and Rural Affairs Policy Steering Committee.

Gore, a Supervisor in Sonoma County, Calif., issued leadership appointments shortly after being sworn in as NACo’s president on July 15, at the conclusion of NACo’s annual conference, the nation’s largest convening of county leaders.
