Fire Destroys Henkle's Home

David and Cindy Henkle are  homeless after a fire today at their home on 554 Taylor Cemetery Road in North Butler County. The structure, a doublewide, was completely destroyed in the blaze which was brought under control by units from the Morgantown, 4th District, and 5th District Fire Departments.

Lane closure for the William H. Natcher Parkway while crews clear right of way Inbox

KYTC crews will have a lane closure in place on the William H. Natcher Parkway beginning today while vegetation is cleared from the right of way.

The lane closure will be in place for the northbound direction only beginning at mile marker 15 in Warren County. The lane closure will shift northward daily as crews work to remove brush and small trees from the right of way.

One-Time Opportunity To View Eggner's Ferry Bridge Collapse

Cranes stand ready to help.

Butler Countians along with others were invited to a one-time opportunity to view the damage to the Eggner’s ferry (Hwy 68-80) bridge across Kentucky Lake Saturday from 9 AM till 1 PM. The structure had been struck by a commercial ship during the night of January 26.

Peay Selected for Inaugural Student Council

Eleven students representing school districts statewide have been selected to serve on the first Next-Generation Student Council, a new group formed by Kentucky Education Commissioner Terry Holliday. Steven Hunter Peay, a junior at Butler County High School, has been selected as a member of the council. “I’m looking forward to meeting with this group of students and hearing their ideas and thoughts about Kentucky’s public education system,” said Holliday.

Athletic programs, assistant coaches on the chopping block at BCHS

A proposal  to eliminate seven athletic teams at Butler County High School was the main topic of discussion at yesterday's monthly meeting of the school's site-based decision making council. The programs in jeopardy are golf, tennis, soccer  - both male and female teams - and volleyball.  According to Principal Patrick O'Driscoll, the issue comes down to cutting athletics to save teachers.

Two-vehicle collision on U.S. 231 near Aberdeen Grocery

The 1997 Dodge Dakota driven by Chelli Moore.

A small pickup truck and a large van collided earlier tonight on U.S. 231 in front of Aberdeen Grocery.  Although substantial damage was done to both vehicles, especially the truck, no significant injuries were reported by either of the individuals involved.

Ellis Joins Reed's Barber Shop

Reed House and Rich Ellis

"It's a whole lot easier to work together than to compete," says Rich Ellis, a new barber to Reed's Barber Shop. This was the driving force behind Ellis' decision to leave The Razor's Edge and join forces with Reed House. Tuesday was the first day that Ellis and House worked together at Reed's and they seemed to be enjoying every minute of it.

Ellis and House have been toying with the idea of working together for the past several years and took the first opportunity to do so.

Farm Boy open for business

The oldest restaurant in Morgantown reopened this morning after being closed down for two weeks. The Farm Boy opened its doors at 5:30 this morning and has had a steady stream of customers ever since. New owner Darrell Deweese has been busy this morning greeting all the customers with a handshake or a pat on the back, running the cash register, and even making a run over to Aberdeen Grocery for more bologna around 7 a.m.

Morgantown Volunteer Fire Department along with Second District and Fifth District Departments responded to a fire on the property of Lee and Marisa Smith of 93 Meadowlark Lane, off Logansport Road, on Monday afternoon.

Andrea's Mission celebrates first graduation; "8 children have their mother back." -- Jimmy Flener

Wendy Browning, Angel Gilland, Director Leslie Cardwell, and Kathleen Hall

Andrea’s Mission, a residential treatment program in Butler County for women battling drug addiction, held its first graduation on Sunday evening, January 29, at Cool Springs General Baptist Church.  A large crowd gathered in support of the first three graduates, Angel Gilland, Kathleen Hall and Wendy Browning as they have completed the six-month program.
