Two vehicle collision on KY 70

At 5:41 Sunday night, Butler County Dispatch received a call reporting a two vehicle collision near 8775 Brownsville Road just past the 4th District Fire Department. According to officials, a 1999 Plymouth Grand Voyager driven by Glen Mason collided with a 2002 Honda Accord occupied by two female juveniles. Mason, a 4th District Volunteer Fireman, was en route to the fire at 316 Brownsville Road of a commercial building owned by Evergreen, Inc. (a.k.a. Green River Equipment Leasing).

Fire, explosions destroy commercial building in Aberdeen

Scores of volunteer firemen from across Butler County rushed to 316 Brownsville Road earlier this afternoon between 5:30 and 6 p.m. to battle a dangerous fire that, if not contained, may have threatened the Warren RECC substation complex at Aberdeen.  According to surveillance cameras at the site, the first smoke was seen at approximately 5:05 p.m.  As firemen converged on the scene and fought the blaze, several loud explosions were heard as unknown items in the building were consumed and as the building itself collapsed.

Deputy Arko locates meth lab inside vehicle

While leaving the scene of a meth-related fire on Al Embry Road earlier today,  Butler County Sheriff’s Deputy Heath West and Kentucky State Police Trooper Brian McKinney encountered a vehicle that was moving erracticly on the road.  The vehicle was stopped and the driver Wesley J. Blunk  32, of Morgantown, appeared to be “under the influence" of a substance.

Meth residue, ingredients found at site of mobile home fire

UPDATE:Kentucky State Police Arson Detective David West and members of the Fourth District Volunteer Fire Department were on the scene early Saturday morning investigating the cause of the fire.  According to West, the fire was arson and described as a "flash fire." Upon investigation, the Butler County Sheriff's Department and Kentucky State Police were notified of suspected methamphetamine production.

Guilty plea in pregnant woman's death

A 2011 high-profile murder case in south-central Kentucky has finally resulted in a guilty verdict for Kathy Coy of Morgantown.  

According to a story posted by the Kentucky News Network (KNN), Coy entered a guily plea earlier today in Warren Circuit Court. The exact plea was "guilty but mentally ill" to charges of killing an expectant mother and taking her baby.

Grand Jury Indictments

 

The Butler County Grand Jury returned indictments against 16 individuals.  Charges included theft, burglary, assault, unlawful transaction with a minor, and drugs.

Mark West ( DOB 11/19/75) of 5201 Waverly School Road, Morgantown, was indicted on the following charges: burglary in the second degree, receiving stolen property under $10,000 and theft by unlawful taking over $500.  Witness: BCS Deputy Heath West

Kari McClelland wins BC Schools' district-wide Spelling Bee

On Thursday, February 16th, the district-level spelling bee was held at the Butler County Educational Complex. The three contestants were:  Kari McClelland, a  5th grader at North Butler Elementary and daughter of Kurt and Tammy McClelland from Morgantown; Mattie Wells,  a 4th grader at Morgantown Elementary and daughter of Shane and Felicia Wells of Rochester; and  Sara Santilli,  an 8th grader at Butler County Middle School and daughter of Mario and Michelle Santilli of Morgantown.

Superintendent, Board tackle budget issue head-on

The Butler County Board of Education met in regular session Tuesday, February 14 at 6:30 p.m. after an hour-long working session. With approximately 60 people in attendance for the board meeting, several voiced their concerns about the district’s financial situation. All board members were present: Greg Moore, Debbie Hammers, Amy Hood Hooten, Delbert Johnson, and Karen Evans.

Renfrow sentenced to 30 years

Jeffrey Renfrow was sentenced today to 30 years in prison on charges stemming from his 2010 arrest for three counts of sexual abuse, first degree and three counts of sodomy, second degree. Renfrow accepted a plea deal from the office of the Commonwealth Attorney (Tim Coleman)  that will require him to serve 30 years in prison and a 5-year conditional discharge after release.  Renfrow will be required to register as a sex offender after his release.  He will be eligible for parole after 20% of his sentence is served.
