BC Sheriff, MPD Make Drug Arrests

The Butler County Sheriff’s Department made arrests on a variety of offenses over the weekend. Misty Dawn Drake, 35, of Morgantown, was arrested on Thursday, January 26, by Sheriff Scottie Ward after a complaint that Drake was intoxicated and "out of control."

Embry, Jr., R-Morgantown signs a pledge during Kentucky Call to Prayer Day, which was held in the Kentucky Capitol Rotunda in Frankfort.  The pledge was to reaffirm the commitment by legislators to uphold the values that the Commonwealth was founded upon. The Morgantown-Butler County Chamber of Commerce held its first luncheon of 2012 at the Butler County Extension Service office on Thursday, January 26. The Chamber welcomed a few new faces to the board with Roger Southerland, Mike Coleman, and Ricky Romans all joining the board this year. New Chamber President Jamie Chaney welcomed all who attended the dinner; the meal was catered by the Wonderful Pig in Dunbar.

BTN Partners With Cell Phones For Soldiers

Beechtree Radio and non-profit Cell Phones for Soldiers Inc. are asking Butler County residents to help troops call home by donating gently-used cellular phones. With ongoing deployments to combat areas and elsewhere, as many as 369,000 troops are serving in the U.S. military overseas. By donating gently-used cellular phones to Cell Phones for Soldiers, Butler County residents can provide troops with that precious connection to loved ones back home.

Beginning today, residents can donate their phones to the cause at Beechtree Media, 107 W. Ohio St.

Couple Caught Stealing Furniture

The Butler County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call from Ward Anderson on Tuesday night around 6:00pm. Deputy Heath West arrived at 5959 South Hill-Union Road to find Anderson and James Givens preventing individuals from leaving the property. Ray A. Ferguson, 67 of Muhlenberg County was talking with Anderson and his wife Debra Ferguson was hiding inside the home.The Ferguson's admitted to taking furniture from the residence.They also had stolen furniture from 2398 Dunbar-Lee Road in their possession.

Aleris International lays off over two dozen employees

Aleris International is located off Gardner Camp Road in Morgantown.

Last Wednesday afternoon. January 18, more than 25 Aleris employees were informed they would no longer have jobs with the company.  According to some of those individuals, they were told they were being laid off and that their medical insurance would run out at midnight that night.

Decker, Embry crowned Bearfest King and Queen

C.W. Decker and Madison Embry were crowned Bearfest King and Queen

The 2012 Bearfest festivities were held on Friday, January 20 after the first game of a girl-boy double header against South Warren. C.W. Decker and Madison Embry were crowned Bearfest King and Queen in front of the packed stands. Madison is the daughter of Sheri Anderson of Aberdeen and Richard Embry of Morgantown. C.W. is the son of Bridget Decker of Roundhill.

Retired DC Fire Chief Praises BC First Responders

On Tuesday, January 17 at approximately 3 p.m. Butler County Dispatch received a call reporting an overturned vehicle with a female passenger trapped within. Members of Butler County Emergency Medical Service jumped into action without a second thought; handling these types of situations, while not easy, are what they are trained to do. They were on the scene in minutes and began providing assistance to the passenger in need, Richmond, Kentucky native Elizabeth Smith, alongside the Morgantown Volunteer Fire Department and Butler County Rescue Squad.
