The Butler County Grand Jury returned indictments against 16 individuals on March 19, 2013. Charges include drug trafficking, burglary, forged prescriptions, and manufacturing methamphetamine .

Earlier this week, Beech Tree News welcomed Alex Hall to their team of reporters. Alex is the son of James and Lindsay Hall, owners of Solar Connection in Bowling Green, Eric Elms, Finance Officer at the Butler County Board of Education, and Brandi Elms, a bus driver for Butler County Schools. Hall is a senior at Butler County High School and is attending Western Kentucky University this fall. He plans on becoming a Registered Nurse then specializing in Anesthesiology.

The Morgantown City Park housed this year's annual Morgantown Bank and Trust Easter egg hunt for local children. Countless items were given to many of the children whose names were drawn out of a box. Several were drawn before the hunt began, and many more were drawn afterwards.

United Way of Southern Kentucky (UWSK) will hold a region wide food drive aptly titled “Feed the Need” in Allen, Barren, Butler, Edmonson, Logan, Simpson, and Warren counties starting today and ending April 13th.

"Beware of a scam in Butler and surrounding counties," said Scottie Ward, Butler County Sheriff.  People are recieving a check and letter in the mail claiming their company has been retained to inform you of the official release of the USA MEGA PUBLISHING CLEARING HOUSE DRAWS.

According to the letter you have won $250,000 and are given a claim number.  To expedite the processing they have enclosed a check of $4,194.10 from your winnings to help you send in $2,995 for processing fees.

Art Mural in Morgantown set for April 13th! 

The Morgantown City Council discussed various topics at their regular monthly meeting Thursday night.  Council member Terrell House was absent, and new MPD Chief Charles Swiney participated in his first Council meeting.

The Butler County Board of Education met Tuesday night at the Butler County Education Complex.  The Board recognized several students for recent achievements, particularly those involved in the Bowling Green Technical College Regional Competition of Skills USA.  Damon Cockrell was 2nd place in Carpentry; Carrington Harpe, 3rd place in Carpentry; Caleb Hunt, 3rd place in Related Technical Math; Alex Hudnall, 1st place in Industrial Motor Controls; Zach Felty, 1st place in both HVAC and Job Skill Demonstration; Paul Staples, 3rd Place in Welding; and Landon Lynch, 3rd place in Residential Wir

The Boys and Girls Club of Morgantown has recently hired a new director following the departure of previous director Debra Hall.  Mr. Stan England, of Bowling Green, has been hired as the new director.

 Mr. England has extensive experience with Boys and Girls Clubs, as well as AOC Pretrial Services. He is also experienced in recruiting, training, supervising staff, composing budgets, human resource policies, crisis management, and safety standards. He has also created individual and business leader donor lists that contribute to raising in excess of $300,000 per year.
