Today Is Tax Freedom Day in Kentucky

Residents of the Bluegrass State Celebrate Earlier Than National Date of April 18th- Tax Freedom Day, the date on which Americans will have earned enough money to pay this year’s tax obligations at the federal, state, and local levels, falls on April 6th for residents of Kentucky. The nationwide date for all Americans, as announced this week by the Tax Foundation, will be Thursday, April 18th.

Religious Freedom, School Safety among Final Bills Approved in 2013 Legislative Session

The final two days of the 2013 session of the Kentucky General Assembly were filled with a mix of emotions ranging from frustration to exhilaration.  The Republican Caucus began at 10:00 a.m. with a meeting to discuss the proposed changes to the Kentucky public employee pension systems; we moved quickly to the floor of the House at noon and found ourselves in recess shortly before 2:00 p.m.  The recess would last late into the evening, little action was taken and day one ended in deep frustration the issue that had overshadowed the session would remain unresolved.

Fields Signs Proclamation For Warren RECC Day

On Monday April 1st, Judge Executive David Fields signed a proclamation that deems April 6th Warren Rural Electric Cooperative Corporation Day in Butler County. WRECC has been established for 75 years and has provided electricity to over 60,000 homes and businesses in the area.

Chamber Recognizes Mission, Learns About Leadership

Chamber President James Runion and Garry McKinney of the Morgantown Mission.

The Morgantown Butler County Chamber of Commerce held their monthly luncheon on Thursday, March 28, at the Butler County Extension Office.  Jim Green presented a “Lunch & Learn” session on leadership.  Green, a Butler County School Administrator, is also a certified member of the John C. Maxwell Coaching, Speaking and Teaching Team.

Butler County Schools Recommended for District-wide Accreditation from AdvancEd!

The Butler County Board of Education met Wednesday, March 27th at a special called meeting to hear the recommendations of the AdvancEd External Review team.  The team from AdvancEd-formerly the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) -will be recommending the first ever district-wide accreditation for Butler County Schools.   This means that the system and all of its schools are accredited, and that Butler County Schools is recognized across the nation as a quality school system.  Superintendent Howard said he was asked on several occasions: Why accreditation?  Why now?

Student bolts middle school after money discovered stolen

Jillian Johnson attempted to pick-up an 8th grade student following an incident at the school on Tuesday.

The theft of approximately $400 from Butler County Middle School on Monday, March 25th, was apparently the cause of that student running from school on Tuesday.  The money was taken from inside a teacher's desk.  After the money was reported stolen on Monday, an internal investigation at the school was allowing school officials to narrow their focus to a particular student.

Shoot to Help Local Families on April 12, 2013

On Friday April 12, 2013, Neace Lukens and Broderick & Davenport, PLLC present the Community Big Shot Sporting Clays Tournament benefitting Community Action of Southern Kentucky. The tournament will be held at Rockcastle Shooting Center in Park City, KY. For a $50 fee, each shooter will receive lunch, 100 targets, a reception at Cave Valley Winery with entertainment and the chance to win CASH prizes, door prizes and the title of Community Big Shot. Area’s Largest Easter Egg Hunt at Bowling Green Ballpark this Saturday

Bowling Green, KY – The Bowling Green Hot Rods, Class A Affiliates of the Tampa Bay Rays, announce EasterFest 2013 will take place this Saturday, March 30, 2013 at Bowling Green Ballpark.  Along with Broadway United Methodist Church and Crossland Community Church, the Hot Rods welcome kids of all ages to participate in the Easter Egg Hunt, which will feature over 50,000 Easter Eggs.

KYTC Advisory: Preparations being made for bridge deck work on the Natcher Parkway in Butler County

Crews will begin the placement of barrier wall on the William H. Natcher Parkway at the Green River Bridge (mile marker 34.8) Monday, April 1, in preparation for overlay work on the bridge deck.
A lane closure for the northbound direction will be put into place and remain for approximately 4-5 weeks. This closure will remain in place 24/7 and will be limited in width to 13 ft. or less.
Information regarding southbound lane closures will be distributed prior to the work changing directions.
