BEWARE of SCAM

Checks people are receiving

"Beware of a scam in Butler and surrounding counties," said Scottie Ward, Butler County Sheriff.  People are recieving a check and letter in the mail claiming their company has been retained to inform you of the official release of the USA MEGA PUBLISHING CLEARING HOUSE DRAWS.

According to the letter you have won $250,000 and are given a claim number.  To expedite the processing they have enclosed a check of $4,194.10 from your winnings to help you send in $2,995 for processing fees.

"The checks look real and banks have cashed them," said Ward.  Some people have sent the company the processing fee, then discover the check was not valid thus being out the $4,194.10 and the $2,995 they sent back. A second scam circulating in the area is from the Kentucky State Police.  KSP wants to remind Kentuckians if they receive a call  do not send money over the phone or internet.

The KSP post in bowling green received a complaint about a phone call.

In the conversation, the caller was told they had a warrant, and if they wired money, the warrant could be dismissed.
