Butler County Fiscal Court met at the courthouse on March 24 with all magistrates in attendance.

Old Business

Butler County Jailer Wayne Russ told the court he had found enough money from a CPC Grant to pay for the $7,415 plumbing repairs from Marlin Mfg. needed at the jail.

WARREN RECC RESPONDS TO SPRING STORM

April 3, 2025 (Bowling Green, KY) Severe storms passing through the area last night caused widespread power outages. Strong winds caused numerous broken poles and downed power lines throughout the Warren RECC territory. At the height of last night’s storm, approximately 7,000 members were without power. As of 8:45 a.m. CDT, we have approximately 500 members without power and 23 broken poles.

Execution of Search Warrants on "Vape Shops"

After numerous complaints were received by the Drug Task Force (DTF), Bowling Green Police Department, Kentucky State Police and the Warren County Sheriff’s Office the DTF begin an investigation into “Vape Shops” selling marijuana products. Many of these complaints were from parents and concerned citizens about Vape Shops selling to minors as young as 13.

Jail budget approved; new flooring, plumbing repairs considered for jailer, clerk

Butler County Fiscal Court met at the courthouse on Monday, March 10. All magistrates were present: Stevie Givens, Kevin Phelps, Allen Smith, David Whittinghill, and Dillon Bryant.

Old Business:

-The court approved the purchase of a 2025 Honda Accord from Gary Force Honda for $28,500 and an additional $2,795 for the cage, lights, and radio installation.  

-The court approved the 2026 Jail Budget of $1,483,312.00.

CITY GOVT.: Flurry of board appointments made; departments give monthly reports

Morgantown City Council met on Thursday, March 13th at city hall. Mayor Billy Phelps swore in Michael Gary as the newest member of the council. Upon Gary becoming a council member, a seat on the utility board would need to be filled - one previously occupied by Gary. Mayor Phelps recommended promoting from within boards and suggested Pam Staples, senior member of the housing board. The motion was approved.  It was then recommended that Robbie Phelps, senior member of board of adjustments be moved onto the housing board.

Ribbon cutting held at ECTC; auditorium named Tina Porter Training Room

A ribbon cutting on Tuesday, March 11, at the Butler County Early Childhood Center (BCECC).  The event marked the official opening for the new center, formerly the home of Morgantown Community Church.
