Fugitive in ongoing death investigation arrested in Idaho
As part of an ongoing investigation Butler County Sheriff's Deputy Talon Gary learned of the possible location of Aaron Scott Hypes (01/11/82). Hypes, a fugitive, is charged with second-degree manslaughter, trafficking in controlled substances - second offense fentanyl, and first-degree persistent felony offender. The charges stem from an overdose death investigation conducted by the Morgantown Police Department and Kentucky State Police that occurred at Green River Lodge in Morgantown on June 9, 2024. A deceased male was discovered at the scene.
On March 27, 2025, Deputy Gary contacted the Moscow Police Department (Idaho) concerning Hypes' whereabouts. Commonwealth Attorney Blake Chambers assisted with the extradition warrant. The Moscow Police Department, Latah County Sheriff’s Office, Idaho State Police, and Latah County Regional SWAT Team acted together in an effort to apprehend the suspect. This multi-agency effort was significantly aided by the assistance of a citizen of Moscow. The suspect was apprehended without issue on March 27, 2025 at approximately 6:30 p.m. and is lodged at Latah County Jail, awaiting extradition to Kentucky.
