Sheriff Ward presents excess fees, voting machine maintenance, and illegal dumps

Butler County Sheriff Scottie Ward presents excess fees to Judge David Fields.

The Butler County Fiscal Court met in regular session on Monday night at the courthouse.  With all magistrates present, the court quickly moved through the agenda.


Butler County Clerk Sherry Johnson made a presentation to the court for voting machine maintenance and a dual display of election results from Harp Enterprises Inc.  The court approved both requests.
"Generally, machine maintenance is done every four years...there are no elections this year, last year we had four," said Johnson.
The voting machine maintenance total cost is $4,352.60.
The dual display would allow elections results to be updated on the large screen in Johnson's office directly.  The total cost for the dual display is $1,681.
Butler County Sheriff Scottie Ward presented his 2016 Final Settlement (subject to audit) and a check for $36,991.75 in excess funds to the court.
Butler County Jailer Rocky Tyree presented the 2017-2018 proposed Jail Budget for the court's review.  The total proposed budget is $924,351.
The court approved the submission of the 2017-2018 Kentucky Pride Fund Recycling Grant application and the release of bids to clean up the 2017 Illegal Open Dump Grant.  Eight illegal dump sites in Butler County were approved for the grant:

  • Bryant Ridge Road
  • Charlie Shepard Road
  • Cook Cemetery Road
  • Doolin Lake Road
  • Long Branch School Road
  • Mark Bratcher Property
  • Sunny Lane Richelieu Road
  • Woodbury Lock 4 Road

The court approved the first reading of an amendment to the Fire Dues Ordinance.  According to Butler County Attorney Dick Deye, the amendment clarifies the time coverage of the dues on the tax bills.  The 2017 tax bills will include the fire dues which will cover 2018.
Fifth District Magistrate Bobby Moore made a motion to table the Excess Weight Limit Ordinance, Second District Magistrate Johnny Tuck seconded the motion which was approved by a 5-0 vote.
The court approved a lease agreement of $119.67 per month for 48 months for a copier for the judge's, treasurer's, and occupational tax offices.
After a brief discussion on proposed improvements to the Rochester Ferry House, the court voted 4-1, (Third District Magistrate Chad Tyree voting against) to a $6,000 material list from Caneyville Builders.  According to Judge David Fields, the men from Andrea's Mission has agreed to do the work free of charge.  The cost would also be shared with Ohio County.
The court approved a motion to allow the part-time Rochester Ferry operator to work more than 100 hours a month as he is currently the only Rochester Ferry operator.
The court voted to place signs at the Woodbury Park and Leonard Oak Boat Ramp prohibiting the riding of 4-wheelers and dirt bikes on the property.
