WLBQ Radiothon nets $11,700 for Morgantown Mission Holiday Baskets

The holiday season for many local families will be a little brighter this year as a result of a partnership between the Morgantown Mission, WLBQ 101.5 FM, and the overwhelming generosity of the people of Butler County.

The 8th Annual WLBQ Radiothon was held Friday, November 2.  For a donation of $30, Mission Director Garry McKinney is able to provide a holiday meal for a family of four.

The event actually kicked off on Friday during WLBQ’s Out On A Limb show where listeners donated 50 baskets.  The generosity continued as the radiothon officially got underway at the Mission. Radio personalities Diane Dyer, Brent Clark, Josh Hampton, Jeremy Hack, Jeremy Womack, David Colter, and others joined with many people from the community to “gently” plead the case for financially supporting the work of the Morgantown Mission to provide holiday food baskets.

The radiothon has come a long way since its inception several years ago.  It first started in 2011. The first radiothon was held in what is now the Ace Hardware building and the first goal was to raise enough money for 75 baskets; that goal was met with 82 baskets.

“We love working with the Mission to help support those in need in our community,” said WLBQ’s Diane Dyer.  “At WLBQ and Beech Tree News we are all about Butler County and we’re grateful for the opportunity to give back to the community.”

Mission Director Garry McKinney was excited about the success of the radiothon.

“God is good.  The people of Butler County are amazing and very generous,” said McKinney.

The radiothon has raised well over $60K in the last eight years.
