Carter Hawkins wins district-wide spelling bee

Carter Hawkins, Morgan McKinney, Briley Webster, and Butler County Schools' Superintendent Scott Howard

The Butler County School's district-wide spelling bee was held Tuesday, February 7, at Education Complex.  Carter Hawkins, 7th grade representative of Butler County Middle School, won first place. Carter is the son of Jeff and Annie Hawkins. Morgan McKinney, 5th grade representative of Morgantown Elementary School, won 2nd place. Morgan is the daughter of Brian and Paige McKinney. Briley Webster, 5th grade representative of North Butler Elementary, won 3rd place. Briley is the daughter of Jeff and Krista Webster.

B.C. Schools out rest of the week due to illness, low attendance

The flu and other assorted illnesses have taken their toll on attendance this week in the classroom.  Therefore, Butler County Schools' Superintendent Scott Howard has made the decision to cancel classes for the remainder of the week due to consistently low attendance.

Senator C. B. Embry speaks on the Senate Floor

State Senator C.B. Embry speaks on the Senate floor on January 5, 2017, during the first week of the 2017 Regular Session of the Kentucky General Assembly. Sen. Embry will present his Senate Bill 21, a “Right to Try” bill which allows for the use of experimental treatments for terminal illnesses, for discussion in the Senate Health and Welfare Committee. Local KSP Trooper Keeps the Peace during Presidential Inauguration

Congressional Medal of Honor winner Don Jenkins and KSP Trooper Brian McKinney

Trooper Brian McKinney has served with the Kentucky State Police for thirteen years. As a trooper, he has been in several different situations but this is the first that involved him being instrumental in keeping the peace during a Presidential Inauguration.  

For the past few years he has been granted the opportunity to escort Don Jenkins, Congressional Medal of Honor recipient, to several events, including the recent inauguration of the 45th President, Donald J. Trump.

324 Lives Saved through Kentucky Organ Donation in 2016

“As we sat beside my 5-month-old son’s hospital bed, we begged God for a miracle.  Smith had been fighting 24 hours for his life but, really, he had fought since birth. Smith was born with a rare liver disease called Biliary Atresia. The bile ducts in his liver were not formed correctly. Bile was trapped and quickly caused cirrhosis to his liver,” explains Smith Webster’s mom, Holly from Jefferson County.

Smith was listed in very critical condition.  Machines miraculously kept Smith alive while he waited for his Gift of Life through organ donation, a transplant.

North Butler Elementary - Spelling Bee & St. Jude's

North Butler Elementary Principal Josh Belcher and Spelling Bee Winner Briley Webster

From a school-wide spelling bee to supporting St. Jude's, North Butler Elementary is a busy school.  

Briley Webster won the North Butler Spelling Bee.  Blake Bratcher finished in second place and Brayden Phelps was third place.
