Wesley Phelps killed his first turkey on opening day of the Youth Season. The turkey weighed 19.12 lbs., a 10" beard, and 3/4 in. spurs. Wes went with his daddy, Tommy Phelps.

Butler County Little League kicked-off their season last Saturday by recognizing all of the participants in a pre-game ceremony. Also honored before the first pitch were all the Little League Officers and board members, D & G Archery, GUMBK with TVA, Aberdeen Grocery, and the Masonic Lodge.

The Butler County Middle School Cheer Squad gathered in the BCMS Library/Media Center for a banquet to honor the 2011/12 cheerleaders. The BCMS Cheer Squad went undefeated in local competition this year in addition to being undefeated in competition for the two previous years.

Last week marked the beginning of all-important district competition with Butler County squaring off against Trinity twice and Grayson County once. The Bears defeated the Lady Raiders 10-0 on Monday and 5-4 on Tuesday, before falling 7-1 to Grayson County on Thursday.

The BCHS Bears baseball team traveled to Bowling Green to take part in the Bowling Green/Warren County Invitational Tournament over the weekend. The Bears suffered three losses in the tournament, with two close games.

The Bears tennis teams were in action late last week hosting the Aces from Cloverport (Frederick Fraize High School) on Thursday and traveling to take on the Panthers of Russellville on Friday. The Boys dropped a 4-5 decision to the Aces in the last match of the evening.

UK superfans Amy Smith-Thomas and Debbie Hammers made the short trip to Owensboro last Friday to see UK head coach John Calipari and the 2012 National Championship Trophy.

The BCHS Bears Baseball team has had relatively quiet week so far, but things will heat up this weekend at the Bowling Green Invitational tournament. On Monday, the Bears traveled to Franklin Simpson high school where they faced off against the Wildcats.

The Butler County Tennis Team made two trips up the Natcher this week to take on the Red Devils of Owensboro High School and the Panthers of Daviess County High School. The Girls picked up a 5-4 victory over the Red Devils on Monday night but fell 0-9 to the Panthers on Tuesday.
