Jarrod Jacobs: Timeless truths about the Bible

The Bible is a powerful tool (Jer. 23:29). It is a warrior’s weapon (Eph. 6:17; II Cor. 10:3-5)! Unfortunately, the Bible is taken for granted by many in our society. It is treated by some as a book of myths and legends, as a magic charm, and other things. It is time that we learn what the Bible truly is and respect it for what it is.

Andy Sullivan: Against the Grain

Williams Sonoma is an American retailer of cookware, appliances and home furnishing.  It’s owned by Williams-Sonoma Inc.  In 1947, Chuck Williams settled in Sonoma, California and opened his first shop in France, where he quickly fell in love with French kitchenware such as copper cookware and is quoted as saying “I knew this was something that wasn’t found in America, but I thought people would want”.  Shortly after returning home, he formulated a plan to import French cooking and serving equipment into America and eventually converted his store into a cookware shop in 19

Week 9

As we wrap up week nine of the 2022 Regular Session, much is happening in the world. Often we get caught up in challenges we face nationally and even those challenges abroad. Rightfully so. The current topic most critical is the conflict between Ukraine and Russia. Bipartisan Senate Resolution 153 was adopted by the Senate this week, and spoke to the importance of freedom and standing in unity with the Ukrainian people.

Cheryl Hughes: Cat Signal

I have another cat.  Yeah, me, who said no more cats after my cat, Figaro, passed away last fall.  The new cat is a huge, black male cat that showed up at our barn one evening.  He’s very gentle, and I feed him on the back sidewalk.

Jarrod Jacobs: "The Bloody Altar"

When the Jews offered sacrifices, God had something to say about what happened to the blood of the sacrifices. Eight times in Leviticus, we read where God expected the priests (or Moses) to put blood on the horns of the altar, and then the rest of the blood was to be poured “at the bottom of the altar” (Lev. 4:7, 18, 25, 30, 34, 5:9, 8:15, 9:9).

Patty Craig: A Slice of Time

I heard someone say, “Some people come in your life as blessings; others come in your life as lessons.” Interesting thought. Wondering what others would think, I asked friends and family how they felt about the statement. Their responses are listed below.

-I think the Lord can send people into your life to bless you or even as a lifeline, which has happened to me. I believe most “lessons” are due to not listening to the Lord. He gives us intuition and guidance, and we choose whether to listen to that.

As we draw to the close of week eight of the 2022 Regular Session, we passed significant legislation to help people across the commonwealth.

Senate Bill 194, the Senate’s tax rebate plan was introduced; a proposal to end the COVID-19 state of emergency was voted favorably off the Senate floor and Senate Bill 138, the Teaching America’s Principles Act, was passed out of the Senate, where it now proceeds to the House of Representatives.

Cheryl Hughes: The Threat of Freedom

One night last week, I watched with the world as Russia invaded Ukraine.  In the capital city of Kyiv, a Jewish Rabbi told the cameras he was not evacuating because one of his parishioners had asked him to stay behind with her.  The woman was 101 years old and had experienced the invasion of the Nazis during WWII.  “Can you stay with me?” she had asked the Rabbi.  “I don’t know what they will do.”

Jarrod Jacobs: "Not Yours, But God's"

This phrase comes from a passage found in II Chronicles 20:5-19. Jehoshaphat had been praying to God concerning a particular battle. God answered him and said, “Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s” (v. 15). Can you think of other things that are not ours but God’s?
