Jim Waters: Liberty-boosting-and-busting moves, movers and shakers

The 2022 session of the Kentucky General Assembly has moved past the halfway point.

With plenty more to come, let’s pause to highlight some of this session’s liberty-boosting-and-busting moves, movers and shakers.

Liberty Boosters: It’s as important as it is inspiring to see rural representatives stepping into Kentucky’s school choice arena.

Senator C.B. Embry: Legislative Update

Week 7

We have officially crossed the half-way point of the 2022 60-day Regular Session. Week 7 of session was action-packed as we introduced consequential legislation and moved it through the Senate. Three significant matters I want to update you on are motor vehicle taxes, legislation to address the state’s nursing shortage, and the Teaching America’s Principles Act, which cleared the Senate Education Committee on Thursday.

I went to visit Garey’s mom, Aggie, for a few days last week.  She gets so lonely since her little dog passed away.  Before I left, I gave Garey strict instructions to make sure our two kittens continued to live in the manner to which they had grown accustomed, then I loaded my stuff and headed to Corner, Alabama.

Jarrod Jacobs: "Some Things Baptism Doesn't Do..."

Last week, we studied about baptism and saw things that baptism does in people’s lives. Since we learned about what baptism does last week, let us take a moment to understand that there are some things that baptism does not do. What are some things baptism does not do?

Jim Waters: Well-designed rainy day policy an umbrella for reserve funds

During the early days of this year’s General Assembly session, lawmakers directed $200 million in relief funding to areas devastated by violent tornadoes which blew through Bowling Green and surrounding areas in early December.

Thanks to the healthiest “rainy day” fund in its history at nearly $2 billion, Kentucky was in a much-better position to provide this type of significant and immediate assistance than just a few years ago when such a large chunk of change would have eaten a large hole out of the state’s savings.

The song “Mockingbird” might be best known as a Carole King-James Taylor duet, but did you know neither wrote the song? The original single was credited to Inez Foxx with vocal accompaniment by her brother Charlie, as they alternated the lyric on a syllabic basis.  Considered something of a novelty song, it was a great success for them upon its release on Sue Records (Symbol Records) reaching #2 on the R&B charts and #7 on the U.S.

For my desk, one of my daughters gave me The Old Farmer’s Almanac Everyday Calendar for 2022. Each day provides a bit of information to read, and the bottom of each page directs the reader to “ALMANAC.COM.” When I visited the website, some of the information I found included the following:

A warm January, a cold May. –Folklore

When wrens are seen in winter, expect snow. –Folklore

Truth and oil always come to the surface. –Spanish proverb

Senator Stephen Meredith: Legislative Update

To my dear friends,

We are quickly approaching the halfway mark of this year's 60-day legislative session, and Frankfort was granted several days of pleasant weather. However, there was little time to enjoy the sunshine and warmer temperatures as lawmakers continued to work on policy that benefits our commonwealth’s rural communities.

Week 6

We are quickly approaching the halfway mark of this year's 60-day legislative session, and Frankfort enjoyed several days of pleasant weather. However, there was little time to enjoy the sunshine and warmer temperatures as lawmakers continued to work on policy to move the commonwealth forward.
