Patty Craig: A Slice of Time

I heard someone say, “Some people come in your life as blessings; others come in your life as lessons.” Interesting thought. Wondering what others would think, I asked friends and family how they felt about the statement. Their responses are listed below.

-I think the Lord can send people into your life to bless you or even as a lifeline, which has happened to me. I believe most “lessons” are due to not listening to the Lord. He gives us intuition and guidance, and we choose whether to listen to that.

-I’m thinking this might be both things. Sometimes someone might come into your life as a blessing and a lesson. The blessing might be the lesson you learn from them.

-Maybe the lesson is a blessing, too. Romans 8:28 (NIV) says, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

-100% agree.

-Agree.

-So true.

-I would consider lessons blessings, and I believe God is sovereign over all, His ways are higher than our ways, and He works all things for our good and His glory. So, I guess I think everyone that comes in our lives are blessings, even when it doesn’t feel that way to my pea brain.

-Very true. Just wish you could discard the lessons and keep the blessings. Sometimes it takes a while to recognize the blessing.

-I think lessons ARE one form of blessing (in disguise sometimes?). So – agree!

-I definitely believe that people in our lives change us. Most do teach us lessons because they don’t stay permanently, but people like family and close friends are a blessing.

-That can be true. But people that are blessings are with us when we’re dealing with and learning lessons in life. The same person can be both.

-I think every encounter or interaction provides lessons – some negative, some positive. It is up to us to realize which one it is and hopefully, the ‘take away’ is growth.

-I totally agree. We all learn from experiences, whether it be a good one or a bad one. For example, when someone comes into your life and causes hurt, you learn from them and are more cautious when looking for the person that can bring you love.

-I think everyone in my life comes in as a blessing because some lessons turn into blessings.

-I think every person comes into my life as a blessing, even if it turns into a lesson.

-Lessons are blessings, too. People are just people. Some behave in such a depraved manner that they seem to be more animal than human. I try to focus on the human being when dealing with such ones and look at the more challenging situations as my opportunity to shine.

-I have not heard that quote before, but it makes a lot of sense. I think that we learn from our mistakes as well as grow. So, that would apply to a person who came into your life as a lesson and hopefully you grew and learned something from that experience. Then there are people who just bless you by being around them.

-Yes, a lesson and a blessing, and sometimes both!

-I have seen this in my life many times. If someone doesn’t stay in my life, I think God sent them to teach me a lesson or something about myself. If they don’t stay, they weren’t meant to be a part of my whole story.

Over time, many people have blessed me, and many have taught me lessons (positive and negative). I cannot predict who will be a blessing and/or a teacher; but I know both are needed, and people may fulfill both roles. And those blessings and lessons are part of life.
