Andy Sullivan: Against the Grain

he 58th annual Grammy Awards were held Monday night, February 15.  The 3 and a half hour show was as heavy on performances as awards.  Some of the performances were upstaged by backstage noise and faulty on-stage activity (Adele’s “All I Ask”). The mics fell on the piano strings.  There were tributes (the Eagles and Jackson Browne tribute to the late Glen Fry).  One of the best tributes, I think, was Lady Gaga’s stellar tribute to the late David Bowie.  His son didn’t seem to care for it but I, and many others, enjoyed it.

Patty Craig: A Slice of Time

The winter snows kept me in the house a bit, allowing me to read. Many of the articles I’ve read were related to health. The reading provided good material – some worth sharing.

Cheryl Hughes: Locked Up

I spent the morning gathering Elsa dolls ( from Disney’s Frozen), and they were many and far between.  There were two in the bathtub, one in my BBC room, three in the living room and one in the toy room.  After I had them all, I locked the dolls in Garey’s gun safe.  Let me explain.

Jarrod Jacobs: Sin’s Blinding Touch

Pride touched Naaman, the Syrian general, and made him revolt at Elisha’s command to dip seven times in Jordan (II Kings 5:11-12).

Self-Righteousness touched the Pharisee and blinded him to his own corruption and the publican’s virtues (Lk. 11:12).

Worldly Ambitions touched the eyes of the young ruler and blacked out the possibility of an eternal crown (Lk. 18:23).

Love Of This Present World touched the heart of Demas and led him away from Paul and a faithful life (II Tim. 4:10).

Concerned Butler County Educators visited Frankfort, Mona Daugherty, Michelle Fields, Cindy Embry, C.B. Embry, Latisha Cardwell and Stacy Rice.

As we have passed the halfway point of this session, the countdown begins as we in the Senate anticipate the forthcoming 2016-2018 budget bill from the House of Representatives.

Letter to Editor:Conservation Program Restores Wildlife; Helps Farmers Care for Land, Air, Water

The modern environmental conservation movement is one that has brought awareness and conservation practices to many urban audiences.  To some, it probably seems like a recent shift in American thinking.
But American farmers and ranchers throughout rural and tribal lands were the original conservationists, wasting nothing and preserving as much as possible.  And in recent decades, they’ve produced some amazing results that everyone should know about as a result of the USDA Conservation Reserve Program, or CRP.

Patty Craig: A Slice of Time

Our family has recently welcomed a new member. My great niece joined our family on January 29th. Yes, she is healthy, beautiful and well loved. It’s amazing how love of family can multiply!

Don Locke: Lookin Thru Bifocals

There were times on the American Frontier a rider would tell how he dived from his saddle an instant before a bullet or an arrow struck a tree limb close beside his ear.
According to the dictionary the word, intuition, is described as the ability to see or to know things without our conscious reasoning over and above our commonly known five senses.
Probably we’ve all sensed someone looking at us, only to look up and see a person immediately turn his or her head.

Cheryl Hughes: The Way You Play the Game

Did you watch this year’s Super Bowl between the Carolina Panthers and the Denver Broncos?  It was one of the most disappointing games I have ever watched in my life…and my team (the Broncos) won.  Before I go on, I need to offer a few disclaimers: One, I am not an expert on football; Two, I can’t quote stats or percentages or any other measurement of a player’s or team’s viability (the one exception being that Peyton Manning holds the record for most passing touchdowns, just edging out Brett Favre); and Three, I do not have enough knowledge of the game to argue the finer points of a defens

Jarrod Jacobs: The Making Of Many Books

Long ago, Solomon said, “And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh” (Ecc. 12:12). Solomon’s words ring true today. When we think of all the books in existence on this earth, the sheer volume is staggering! If we could calculate all books that have ever been written, surely it would be an amazingly high number. Perhaps one reason why there are so many books in existence is because many books have wrong information in them!
