Jarrod Jacobs: “We Are Known By What We Do”

Naaman (II Kings 5) was a “mighty man in valor.” He was captain of the Syrian army, known for his military cunning, and bravery. Unfortunately, he was a leper (II Kings 5:1). In order to be cleansed of his leprosy, an Israelite maiden that he had captured told his wife he should see “the prophet that is in Samaria” (II Kings 5:3). Rather than seeing the prophet, though, the king of Syria sent Naaman to the King of Israel for healing (II Kings 5:5-6).

Debby Burden Lanham: View From My Lens

Well, I think we can almost say good-bye (before we even said hello) to the fall colors. Just not much left anywhere that I’ve seen. This incredibly beautiful tree is located at the Woodbury Museum. I do a lot of photo sessions out there and just spend a lot of time enjoying this historic place. We have such beauty surrounding us in our own little county.

Have a blessed week everyone and remember to always take time to stop and smell the roses!!

Patty Craig: A Slice of Time

Yesterday’s presidential election was the “58th quadrennial U.S. presidential election” (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_presidential_election,_2016). I have a friend who jokes that she votes so she’ll have the right to complain. But generally, I believe we vote out of a sense of responsibility and to help select our leader.

A Soldier's Concern By Mary Cottrell Elder

She was sixteen and he was twenty two.  Charles & Eunice Cottrell had been married two years before by Brother Grimes at the Riverside Missionary Baptist Church.  The same church where she was a member and in later years where he was ordained to preach the gospel and where they are buried side by side, today.  Yes, she was only fourteen when she married in August of 1916.  However, this was a century ago and it was not uncommon to be a young bride.

Cheryl Hughes: Make A Way

My daughter called one afternoon expressing the woes that went with being out of hot water.  Her water heater was on the blink and she was waiting on a repairman.  “I can’t wash clothes or take a shower, and this sink-full of dishes is really getting on my nerves,” she said.

Jarrod Jacobs: “Where The Spirit Of The Lord Is”

The apostle Paul wrote to the Corinthians for the second time and said, “Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty” (II Cor. 3:17). Liberty or freedom is a wonderful thing. Our country is founded on the principles of liberty or freedom for all who are citizens. We have experienced wonderful liberty that the world at large does not experience. However, the liberty promised in this text is not liberty in economics. Nor is it liberty that can only be experienced by people in a certain nation.

CIVIL WAR ?

One of my earliest recollections about a formal education process is learning about “The Civil War,” in an American history class. At the time I had not yet fully developed my love for words, so my youthful self, deduced that the word “civil,” must mean within the borders of a single country.

Grayson County was established in 1810 as the 54th county in Kentucky.  The county is named for Col. William Grayson, a Virginian statesman and Revolutionary War aide to General George Washington, who once owned over 5,000 acres which included the western end of the county.  Washington purchased the land from Henry Lee(father of Robert E. Lee) by trading his favorite horse for it.  The county population is 25,891.  The county seat is Leitchfield.
