Debby Burden Lanham: View From My Lens

So God made a farmer! I know we all work hard and trust me, there are days I come home dragging, but the farmer, especially those that work at a public job as well, deserve so much respect. From watching my Grandpa, Stanley Jones, farm and work at the bank every day, I saw a man that went to bed dead tired every night and got up the next morning and did it all again.  Hard work and honest sweat!

Barn photography is a passion of mine, they are so far and few between anymore.
I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!

Kentucky Politicians Declare War against Kentucky's Working Families

The so called right to work and prevailing wage repeal bills passed today by the House will deny economic opportunities for Kentucky’s working families.

Kentucky's working families are suffering. They are facing employment, health care access, and education challenges. The Kentucky GOP not only ignored their plight, they made them worse with these anti-worker bills.

Andy Sullivan: Against the Grain

This year, I continue with my county origins series.  We pick up with Letcher County, founded in 1842 and named for Robert P. Letcher, a Kentucky politician and lawyer who served as a U.S. Representative, Minister to Mexico, and the 15th Governor of Kentucky.  He also served in General Assembly where he was Speaker of the House in 1937-38.  Letcher County’s county seat is Whitesburg and largest city is Jenkins.  Estimated population, as of 2015, was 23,123.

Patty Craig: A Slice of Time

Welcome to 2017! Several media sources have predicted a year of change – likely referring to a change in U.S. leadership. I certainly cannot predict what changes will occur or whether those changes will be positive or negative. I can tell you what I’d like to see changed.

How good looking was Mary Drake?

If you take Ashley Judd, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Vanessa Williams, and Sophia Loren- roll them together you would come close.

Cheryl Hughes: Unstructions

I think I’ve told you before, my husband Garey is a big fan of instructions.  It matters little to him that I am not.  He’s always stopping me in the middle of some project I’m doing in order to read the instructions to me.  Second only to his love of instructions, is his affinity for warnings.  I bet I’ve heard, “Do not sit or stand on the glass shelf, top rung of the ladder or handle bars of a moving ATV or the like” at least a hundred times; as well as, “Do not over-fill, over-tighten or over-heat.”  I’ll be the first to admit that I’ve done most of those things, and yes, with near-peril

Jarrod Jacobs: : "The Devil Doesn’'t Sleep"

This statement was made to me by a dear lady of 96. After she said this, I thought about how much she has seen and experienced. She can surely attest to the fact that “the Devil doesn’t sleep”! Her statement is not a Bible quote, but it reflects a Bible statement found in I Peter 5:8. Peter warned the Christians, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.” It is also similar to what was said by Satan himself when speaking to God in Job 1:7 and 2:2.

PHIL'S PHILOSOPHY BY; D.P KINKADE Contributions by; Taylor and Drake Kinkade

STARTING FRESH: For several months now I have been following a protocol known as target therapy, it is specific to my particular type of cancer and it is still chemotherapy but unlike other chemo protocals I have undergone in the past, which were quite harsh, it specifically inhibits the making of a certain enzyme or something like that, responsible for the prolifiration of the numerous white cells I do not need. It still has it's side effects and draw backs, after all it is chemo but I like this approach better.

Debby Burden Lanham: View From My Lens

My husband and I took advantage of the wonderful weather Wednesday and took a drive to Falls of Rough. I'd been there a few times but have never seen this church.  A peaceful, happy feeling just over came me. There's so much calmness that happens when you enter the Lord's house. Definately my favorite capture of our trip.

Against The Grain productions brings to you…..The 2016 Big Dummy Awards

Let’s be honest, 2016 has been a bust: the veritable Ryan Leaf of years (google it).  So much that I could say dummy-wise about 2016.  I will hold back on some.  Who am I kidding? I won’t hold much back.  Let’s send 2016 out with a bang (thud)!
