Patty Craig: A Slice of Time

Media provides information. We are bombarded with so much information that it’s hard to sort through it to find what we need to know. This past week, I came across three things worth sharing.

Senator C.B. Embry's Legislative Update

Long nights, intense debate, and media attention from across the globe wrapped up what started as a quiet final week of the 2017 Session of the Kentucky General Assembly. Minutes before the Senate gaveled out for good, Governor Matt Bevin called this session the most productive in history.  It was truly an honor to work alongside the governor with the new House Majority to pass many great initiatives for our commonwealth.

I hope you see this before Easter. If not, that’s OK. We can celebrate Easter all year long.

After the resurrection Jesus was seen over 500 times. Given that era of scant transportation and communication, I’d say that’s pretty good proof he arose from the grave.

One of these appearances is among my own favorite:

Cheryl Hughes: A Lot of Dishes

I’ve never been able to draw, but I’ve always been affected by pictures and paintings, especially those on dishes.  I have a Christmas mug that brings such a feeling of warmth and well-being every time I drink an evening cup of coffee from it.  The scene is a snow-covered village, a single person pulling a sled in the foreground.  I have no idea who painted the scene or even the name of the company who manufactured it.  There is no information stamped on the bottom of the mug.  I do, however, have a small plate left over from my childhood that does have a stamp on the bottom.  The plate has

Jarrod Jacobs: And Such Were Some of You

Our title comes from I Corinthians 6:9-11. This text warns against Christians engaging in sin, and reminds us that Christians have been forgiven much. This section also stands as a reminder that it is Christ who has made forgiveness possible. Let us study and learn from the inspired words: “And such were some of you.”

Debby Burden Lanham: View From My Lens

I’ve seen many signs of spring the last few week and the sign it’s time to mow. My yard is covered in this pretty little dandelion’s. I remember as a child picking these and making a wish before I blew them apart.

I can see a child do that even now, and it brings a smile to my face and warms my heart. I love this time of year…life is blooming everywhere!

Have a great week ya’ll.

IN THE CENTER

Recently I had to spend several days at a place designed to treat people who are suffering from various ailments, to an extent that treatment at home is not really an alternative. It is a place known simply as -The Medical Center. If you go by the name one would infer that this is the place to be when sick or injured, for the name implies that this one place is at the hub, core, center, of the medical practice and all things related, revolve around it.

Andy Sullivan: Against the Grain

Once again, it’s time for the Snapple Cap Information Tutorial, aka SCIT.  We begin with this gem: Antarctica holds 90% of the world’s fresh water.  Cows do not have upper front teeth.  Most newborns will lose all the hair they are born with within the first six months of life.  Mangoes are the most consumed fruit in the world.

As a former teacher, April Fools’ Day is not my favorite day of the year. Apparently, since I was taken in by many April Fools’ Day stories in the past, I am gullible. And I’m sure many teachers are happy April Fools’ Day falls on a Saturday this year. It can be a tough day.

Don Locke: Lookin Thru Bifocals

“Scroochy” Yates lived on Locke Lane-two houses from mine my Great Granddaddy’s home place. I guess that is why they named it Locke Lane; about a half mile from New Cypress, in Muhlenberg County- the only place I was born in 1933.

Scroochy had three boys: S.B., Paul Eugene, and Fred Norris. S.B. was the oldest- I believe he married one of the Cornelius girls.
