Cheryl Hughes: Surge Ahead

Back in the fall, I bought a serger at an auction.  For those of you who don’t know, a serger is a small sewing machine that finishes the raw edges of material in order to keep them from unraveling.  They are expensive if new, so I was quite pleased with myself for getting this one at a bargain price.

My serger was missing a cord, so I took it to the Sewing Center in Bowling Green, where they found one to match.  I also bought some tall spools of thread that fit the machine, as well as a package of new needles—best to be prepared.

Jarrod Jacobs: God Created Male and Female

Back in 2015, there was a news report about the Irving Middle School in Lincoln, Nebraska, and their decision to not refer to their students as “boys” and “girls”, but rather in “non-gender” terms. A training document was produced and distributed to the faculty discouraging them from identifying their students according to gender. Instead, they were told to use “gender inclusive terms” when referring to the students.

Debby Burden Lanham: View From My Lens

Even on the cloudy days, you look around, and there is going to be beauty. On Monday, driving home it was extremely cloudy and I turned on my road and looked to the right, and oh what a sunset was going on.

The Master’s art work is amazing!!

Have a great week everyone!!!

Andy Sullivan: Against the Grain

Charles Edward Anderson “Chuck” Berry was born October 18, 1926 in St Louis, Missouri.  From the duck walk, his dynamic Blues-based guitar riffs to that iconic “Johnny B. Goode” riff, Chuck Berry is synonymous with Rock & Roll.  He is, in fact, the father of Rock & Roll.  His other two nicknames were The Prime Minister of Rock & Roll and the (sorry, Elvis) King of Rock & Roll.

Patty Craig: A Slice of Time

Recently I was reading a Christian devotional in which the author mentioned that we should strive to develop good qualities. This wasn’t a new concept to me; most of us have been taught from childhood to try to be a good person and to do the right thing. However, I thought about which qualities cause us to prefer spending time with one person rather than another.

I decided to ask friends and family, “What is one quality that you admire in others and why?” Their responses are listed below. Interestingly, honesty and integrity were popular answers and sometimes mentioned together.

Don Locke: Lookin Thru Bifocals

In the Old Testament, Job wrote: “man is of few days and full of trouble.”

Since then we have extended, somewhat, our days by way of medicines, but we haven’t been able to eradicate trouble-and won’t until the Lord returns. Before miracle drugs such as antibiotics, mineral spas gained importance all over, for the healing of certain diseases; through the “powerfully tonie” mineral water.

Cheryl Hughes: Shelf Life

One of my favorite verses in the Bible is Mark 2 v27: “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath” (NIV).  To put the verse into context, the Pharisees had criticized Jesus’ disciples for picking a few heads of grain on the Sabbath as they walked through a field.  Jesus rebuked the Pharisees criticism with this verse.  The reason I like what Jesus said is because his words have far-reaching implications.

Senator C.B. Embry's Legislative Update

Early mornings turned to late nights and spirited debate echoed through the House and Senate chambers as we closed in on the final days of the 2017 Legislative Session in Frankfort. A flurry of bills were sent to Governor Matt Bevin’s desk this week, highlighted by measures to empower our Kentucky teachers and create better learning environments for our Kentucky students.

Jarrod Jacobs: Christ’s Trilingual Inscription

Four times in the New Testament, we read the statement that Pilate wrote and placed above Christ when He hung on the cross. (Matt. 27:37; Mk. 15:26; Lk. 23:38; Jn. 19:19). The statement over Him declared that it was “The King of the Jews” being crucified that day. While the chief priests protested this statement, Pilate stood firm saying, “What I have written, I have written” (Jn. 19:21-22).
