Don Locke: Lookin Thru Bifocals

I hope you see this before Easter. If not, that’s OK. We can celebrate Easter all year long.

After the resurrection Jesus was seen over 500 times. Given that era of scant transportation and communication, I’d say that’s pretty good proof he arose from the grave.

One of these appearances is among my own favorite:

In Luke 24, two groups, one by the name of Cleopas, were walking along the road to the village of Emmaus. Suddenly Jesus came up and walked with them. The Bible tells us they were kept from recognizing Him: “What are you fellows discussing as you walk along?” He asked. They were sad and downcast, like they had lost a dear friend-they thought they had.

Evidently they had come from Jerusalem, for Cleopas asked this “stranger”, who suddenly appeared among them, “Are you only a visitor to Jerusalem and do not know the things that happened in these days?

“What things?” Jesus asked them.

“About Jesus of Nazareth”, they replied.

“He (Jesus) was a prophet, powerful in word and deed before God and all the people; (But) the chief priests and our rulers handed him over to be sentenced to death (by the Romans), and they crucified Him; we had hoped that He was the one who was going to redeem Israel”…

When they reached Emmaus, Jesus went in and ate with them. When Jesus broke bread and gave thanks and handed them part of the bread, the Bible tells us “their eyes were opened and they recognized Him to,” Abide with us a little longer.”

When the two on the road to Emmaus reflected on all of this they declared, “Didn’t our hearts within us burn?”

“Abide with me, fast falls the even tide. The darkness deepens, Lord with me abide.

“When other helpers fail, and comforts flee; help of the helpless Lord, ABIDE WITH ME.” Up from the grave He arose. PRAISE GOD!

Kindest regards…..
