PHIL'S PHILOSOPHY By: D.P Kinkade Contributions by: Taylor & Drake Kinkade

BOLD COWARDICE-I would like to start off with a quote by someone else which goes as follows, “it should be remembered that brutality is not manliness but cowardice!” I could not find out who originally said that quote and a quick search provided no definitive answers, so, though I would like to give credit to the author of this incredibly wise observation, I am unable. Those few words do hold a vast amount of truth in them though, wouldn't you agree?

Since last month’s article about the women I admire, I’ve made a list of admirable men. Certainly, many have positively influenced our world. However, I want to share a short list of men whom I admire.

Help.  I’m in a state of mind.  I don’t know what to call this episode; maybe old songs and tales will do.  More songs perhaps, than tales: “ Woe mule woe, woe mule i say, I ain’t’ got time to kiss you now this mule will run away…”

Our friends, Greg and Renee, are in South Africa on vacation with their son and daughter-in-law.  They have posted some amazing pictures on Facebook.  One afternoon, my husband, Garey, was showing some of the pictures to one of our mutual friends.  He noticed the hat Greg was wearing.  “Tell him to bring me back one of those hats,” he said.  Garey sent Greg the message, “Jim wants a hat like yours.”  Greg texted back, “Drakes Farm Service, Morgantown, Kentucky.”  We all laughed, because the hat was a broad brimmed one, fashioned so as to protect the wearer from the hot sun.  Because it refl

Jarrod Jacobs: “Straightway”

I remember baptizing a dear lady into Christ. Before she was baptized, we studied from Acts 16:25-34 where it says among other things, that when the Philippian jailer heard the truth, “he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway” (Acts 16:33). She read the word “straightway” and asked what it meant. We focused on that word in our study and it was the best thing we could have done.

WITH ALL DUE RESPECT- Have you ever thought about the phrase, “with all due respect” ? I mean why do we say this phrase right before we are about to disagree with someones opinion or stance on an issue? A lot of the time we say this to someone whom has been put, or has an assumed position of authority above us. In other instances we might use this phrase if they have procured achievements, experience or wisdom, which under most circumstances would render giving them a heavy measure of weight and value to their opinions and thoughts, or conclusions about how something should be done.

I was going to do my column this week on the college basketball scandal, most recently(and publicly), the Louisville basketball scandal.  After Monday and the sudden death of Tom Petty, I decided to table that until next week.  That still doesn’t look right written out: the death of Tom Petty.

October is one of the most beautiful months of the year. The landscape becomes colorful, and the temperature cools. Color and activities abound!

Interestingly, some of the celebration days in October include the following (some more important than others):
