Jarrod Jacobs: A Diary of a Bible

Jan. 10. Been resting for a week. The first few nights of the New Year my owner read me regularly, but he has now forgotten me already, I guess.

Feb. 7. Clean up time. I was dusted with other things and then put back on the shelf.

PHIL'S PHILOSOPHY By; D.P Kinkade Contributions By; Taylor & Drake Kinkade

IT IS WELL?-There were a couple of different titles floating around in my head for this particular column, before I finally settled on “It is well.” One of the titles considered was “Lazarus' Awakening,' the other one was “Colossus Tumbles.” Most of us are familiar with the tale of Lazarus being raised from the dead. The story of Lazarus' death reaching Jesus is the impetus for the shortest verse in the New testament, “Jesus wept.”

Don Locke: Lookin Thru Bifocals

A young man was asked how he reached the highest office in his company.

“I read and studied the Bible book of Proverbs,” he said.

The proverbs of Solomon, the son of David, the King of Israel:

A man of understanding will seek wise counsel (Proverbs 1:5).

Sometimes underlings can give wise counsel:  In World War II, Hitler, as a last ditch effort, virtually threw his whole army — go-for-broke — against the outnumbered U.S. troops surrounded at Bastogne, Belgium, during the Battle of the Belgium Bulge.  It looked bad for our side.

Andy Sullivan: Against the Grain

May 16 is the end of an era.  After 12 years(279 episodes)The Big Bang Theory is calling it quits.  The show started right when I started the second half of my college career.  Therefore, my viewing for the first couple of years was via recording.  It was likely tape because DirecTV(what we had at the time) chose to not give us CBS.  I’m pretty sure I ran through several VCR tapes(remember those?) by the time college was done and I could switch to live viewing.

Patty Craig: A Slice of Time

Mother’s Day is approaching, and it brings to mind how hard my mom had to work to take care of my siblings and me. She was and still is a good mother – a blessing. I believe most mothers are much like my mom.

Wondering what others treasure about their mothers, I asked family and friends: “What is/was your favorite thing about your mother? (Example: a trait, a behavior, a memory, etc.).” Their responses are below:

•She’s great! It’s hard to pinpoint one thing. She’s kind and considerate, treating everyone the same.

Rep. Steve Sheldon Legislative Update: Education Bills Approved During 2019 Session

Representative Steve Sheldon

With the school year coming to an end in just a few short weeks, I know many of you are looking forward to graduation celebrations, field days, spring recitals and the promise of summer vacation. This is a fun and hectic time of the year for those of us with school-age children. For many of our educators, the end of this school year means planning for the next. I would like to take a moment and discuss some of the important education initiatives that we passed this session.

Cheryl Hughes: Better

While we were in the Grand Canyon with our daughter, Nikki, and son-in-law, Thomas, they celebrated their fourth anniversary.  We all went out for dinner that night, and while we were waiting for our food, Thomas said to Nikki, “If we ever get divorced, I get your parents.”  We laughed as Nikki shook her head and said “no.”

Jarrod Jacobs: Jesus Marveled At The People

It is not uncommon to marvel. We might marvel at a great feat of God or man. However, to think about the Son of God marveling at something merits our attention. It is twice recorded that Jesus marveled at men. The first time is in Matthew 8:5-10.
