BC Sheriff & Extension Office Team Up for Drug Take Back Program

The Butler County Sheriff’s Department, Sheriff Scottie Ward, and Tracy Cowles, Butler County Extension Family and Consumer Science Agent, will sponsor a DRUG TAKE BACK PROGRAM on Wednesday, February 27, 2013, 10 am-2pm, at the Butler County Courthouse. The first 50 people will receive a free water bottle.
Pharmaceuticals and Personal Care Products (PPCPs) include prescription and over-the-counter drugs, veterinary drugs, fragrances, cosmetics, sunscreen products, diagnostic agents, and nutraceuticals such as vitamins. These PPCPs enter our environment through human activity such as bathing, shaving, using lotion, or taking medicine, illicit drug use, veterinary drug use, especially antiobiotic and steroid use, ag industry, etc. Research has shown that PPCPS are present in some of the nation’s water bodies and the risks for both humans and aquatic organisms are unknown.
Proper disposal of unwanted or unused PPCPs can help safeguard our environment from PPCPs. You should never flush unused medications down the toilet or pour them down the sink.
Make plans to take advantage of this free activity and turn in any unused drugs you may have.
For more information, contact the Butler County Extension Office at 112 East G L Smith Street, Morgantown or call 526-3767. Educational programs of the Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service serve all people regardless of race, color, age, sex, religion, disability, or national origin.
