The Annual Boys & Girls Club's Radio Auction hit the airwaves on Saturday, November 18, in the lobby of Morgantown Bank & Trust. Bruce White and Jason Jones kicked things off on WLBQ 101.5 FM at 8:00 a.m. and the phones started ringing. By the end of the auction, the total raised was $13,500.

The money will be used for the day-to-day operations of the local club.

"We want to thank everyone who donated items, worked the auction and called in bids. The community response has been overwhelming," said Amanda White, Boys & Girls Club Director.

The 38th annual Butler County Chapter NSDAR Veteran’s Breakfast was held Saturday, November 11, 2023, at the Butler County High School Commons. The breakfast was first held in 1985 in the basement of the United Methodist Church with Mrs. Helen Hunt catering. In later years it was held at the Woodbury House restaurant, the Butler County Library and now has been at BCHS for over 10 years. There has always been a wide range of veterans in attendance, from young to old, from all branches of service.

Members of the Butler County Chapter NSDAR attended the 2nd District meeting and luncheon sponsored by the Grayson Springs Chapter on November 4, 2023, in Leitchfield. The meeting was attended by several chapters in the 2nd District as well as State Committee Chairs. Among the guests was KSDAR Director for the district, Sharon Williams from Elizabethtown who brought greetings from KSDAR leaders and told of many activities that were going on in other chapters around the state.

The Green River Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution will present their Veteran of the Year award to Michael Lynn Hudnall.   This award will be presented at the Veteran Reception held at the Morgantown Elementary School Cafeteria immediately after the Veteran’s Parade.

 The Veteran’s Day Parade begins at 2:00 p.m. tomorrow Saturday, November 11th.  Lineup for the parade begins at 1:00 p.m. at the elementary school.

The Kentucky 4-H Environmental Education Camp (EE Camp) Program aims to provide elementary students the opportunity to learn about Kentucky’s natural resources in an out-of-school setting.  The program is designed for 4^th and 5^th grade classrooms with tailored lesson plans supplementing Next Generation Science Standards.  Class instructors provide meaningful, hands-on programs to educate youth in environmental sciences and cross-cutting concepts to bolster their in-class learning.

The Butler County Extension Office will hold its “FCS Friday” program on November 17th from 2-4 p.m.  Osei Thomas will present “For the Love of Roses” at the Butler County Extension Office.  Attendees will receive the University of Kentucky publication on growing roses.  

Bobby Escue was chosen to be the Butler County NSDAR Veteran of the Year.  Bobby lives in Rochester with his wife Thelma (Tot) Jenkins Escue.

The 33nd Annual Calendar Girl was held Saturday night, November 4 at the Butler County High School Gymnasium.  This event is the major fundraiser for the Butler County FCCLA.  This year’s Covergirl is Miss Karrington Hunt.  She is the daughter of Kristie and Bryan Hunt.

During the Annual Calendar Girl pageant, Mrs. Kimberlea Embry was honored. Mrs. Embry has been teaching Family and Consumer Science for the last 34 years; 31 of those years have been at Butler County. In addition to teaching FCS classes, Mrs. Embry has been an FCCLA advisor for all those years. She has mentored countless students, encouraging them to run for regional and state office and persuading them to compete in STAR events, especially her beloved Parliamentary Procedures team event.
