Gail Smrtic, Doing God's Work with a Brush

The Butler County Art Guild has been closed for six months because of the pandemic; it only fits that Gail, a passionate artist, displays some of her familiar paintings plus over a dozen she has painted during the shutdown. If you're looking for historical, family, a cardinal, or a peaceful stream, she has it all on display.


Aberdeen Baptist Church Grab-n-Go VBS

Aberdeen Baptist Church will be offering a Grab-n-Go Vacation Bible School this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Bags will be available for Pre-school thru 7th graders on Saturday, September 19th, from 10-12 am at the Farmboy parking lot and Rose Plaza.

Everyone is encouraged to stop by for the VBS material.


Butler County Pandemic 1893

The stone marks the grave of Hugh Kelly in Old Riverview cemetery in Morgantown. He and brother Henry died two days apart from Meningitis.

With daily headlines about the current world pandemic and words like "crisis" and "alarming" indeed etched into our LED tv screens, it must be noted that the use of such phrases can be very effective. Cases in point are the two crises that occurred six years to the month apart in or near three separate towns here in Butler County back in the 1890s.

Scout Leader Kyle Coleman was finally able to get most of the scouts together Thursday, August 27, at the Gasper River Catholic Youth Camp.  Each family had a separate table and temperatures were taken.  Masks were worn as an added precaution. 


Now is the time to plant a fall garden

The end of summer doesn’t have to mean the end of the growing season. Now is the time to plant a fall vegetable garden and fill your pantry with cool-season crops well into late autumn. Some of the best quality vegetables are produced during fall’s warm days and cool nights. These environmental conditions add sugar to late-season sweet corn and cool crops, such as cauliflower and cabbage and crispness to carrots.

While you may not be able to stroll the lanes of Cloverville during this year’s Kentucky State Fair due to the COVID-19 pandemic, you can still see the great work many of our youth completed during the past year through our Kentucky 4-H Virtual State Fair Showcase.


Good News: Happy Birthday Olivia!

Olivia Antonia Martinez AKA Rainbow Princess turns 3 on August 22nd. She is the daughter of Antonio Martinez and Erica Martinez.
