Influenza (Flu) and COVID-19 are both contagious respiratory illnesses. While it’s not possible to say with certainty what will happen in the fall and winter, the CDC believes it’s likely that flu viruses and the virus that causes COVID-19 will both be spreading.

In this time of social distancing and staying home, your teen probably has more time on their hands than usual.  Could this lead to drinking alcohol?  Most definitely.  Teens try alcohol for a variety of reasons, such as boredom, stress, peer pressure, or because they think it gives them some kind of independence.  Believe it or not, the average age for a first drink is 14.  Teen brains are more vulnerable to alcohol because it can alter brain development, and research shows that the teen brain does not fully develop until age 25.  Here are some helpful tips to encourage a healthy lifestyle


Help 4-H'ers and Youth Identify Common Garden Pests

As you and your young person continue to monitor your garden’s progress, the chances are high for running into a few uninvited and unwanted visitors. If you find damage, you and your young person can pretend to be garden investigators. Look for clues, gather the suspects and then eliminate all of them but one. Here are some helpful hints to help you get to the bottom of insect damage.


Aquatic Plant Control

Between March and September, the extension office gets a lot of questions about aquatic plant and algae control from owners of private ponds and lakes. Both tend to form when the water is warm, stagnant and has a lot of excess nutrients, particularly phosphorus.
