Softball Round-Robin renamed in memory of Bayleigh Alford

On April 17, 2022, the Butler County Softball program and the broader community suffered a tremendous loss when former player Bayleigh Bron Alford, 19, was tragically killed in a car accident on Easter morning.

BCMS Travel Club Takes on NYC

The Butler County Middle School Travel Club recently returned from a jam-packed spring break trip to New York City. The group of 29, 15 students grades 6-9, and 14 adults, flew to NYC on April 1st and returned on April 4th. Despite the short trip, the group shared many sights and experiences.

BC Drug Free: Art Contest Winners

Butler County Drug Free Community Coalition, BC Drug Free, recently held an art contest for National Take Down Tobacco Day, which is March 31st.  BC Drug Free partnered with local art teachers to ask students to create posters using the theme “stand up against jokers who gamble with your life.” There were many entries, and the winners were presented with a plaque and gift card.

Holy Week services to be held daily at Morgantown Cumberland Presbyterian Church

This week at Morgantown Cumberland Presbyterian Church there will be Holy Week Services every day from noon to 12:30. David Hunt will play piano each day. Speakers are Monday, Darryl Dockery; Tuesday, Raleigh Blancett; Wednesday, Jim Matthews; Thursday, Harold West; and Friday, Murl Gray.

8th grade students get a dose of reality at annual event

Butler County Youth Service Center partnered with the 4-H Extension office today (Friday, March 31) to provide real-life scenarios for the 8th grade students at Butler County Middle School.  The annual event is commonly known as "Reality Store."

GT students tour My Old Kentucky Home, other sites in Bardstown

On Thursday, March 23rd, 28 students ranging from 4th-8th grade with the Butler County gifted and talented program attended a field trip to Bardstown Kentucky.  They toured My Old Kentucky Home and learned the history of the family and Stephen Foster, who wrote our state song.

BCHS Students Excel @FCCLA State Leadership Meeting

The BCHS FCCLA attended the State Leadership Conference March 21-24. Congratulations to their members: 

 

MacKenzie Tyree for completing duties of Region 4 President and placing 4th in Teach and Train. She was also honored with the Agnes Foster Golden Horizon Award for exceptional seniors.

Quilters of Gasper River Association of Baptists

Linda Pendley, Patty Cardwell, Sharon givens, Wanda Embry, Grist Goodall, Ann Givens, and Ruby Daugherty

The Quilters of Gasper River Association of Baptists visited Hospice of Southern Kentucky on Wednesday and donated 24 beautiful quilts. Did you know there is an estimated 12 hours put into each quilt? So that's 288 hours of handmade love. The group meets at the Association building every Wednesday from 11:00-3:00 pm.  

They have donated quilts to Hosparus, the Hospitality House at the Medical Center, Morgantown Mission for the homeless, and sent several quilts to the flood area in Eastern Kentucky.

Garden Program Begins March 20, 2023

The Community Action Garden Program is designed to encourage economic self-support by providing low-income households with the essential materials to start growing a vegetable garden.

Eligible program participants receive a voucher from Community Action of Southern Kentucky, Inc.  The voucher can be used to purchase garden products, such as, garden seeds, garden plants, and/or fertilizers.
