Kentucky Fish and Wildlife files lawsuit in deer disease case

Hunter brought infected carcass into state

FRANKFORT, Ky. (May 8, 2023) — The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources is seeking civil damages in a recently filed lawsuit against a Louisville hunter who illegally brought into Kentucky the head of a deer that was harvested in Wisconsin and later tested positive for chronic wasting disease (CWD), a highly infectious disease that kills deer and elk.

It is the first time Kentucky has sought civil damages against a hunter for importing a diseased deer carcass.

Firefighters in Butler County were recognized May 5 with the signing of a proclamation by Judge-Executive Timothy Flener in honor of International Firefighters’ Day. Attending the signing were current and former firefighters and emergency personnel: Left to right, Ronald Givens, Chief Brian Hope, Steven Wayne Johnson and Isaac Nesmith, Morgantown; Judge Flener; Robbie O’Neal, Rochester; Chief J.B. Miller and Ken Tomes, Fourth District; Allen Smith, Rochester; and Charlie Tomes, Emergency Management Director. Other fire departments in the county are Second District and Fifth District.

Four Butler County High School students have been accepted into Kentucky's prestigious Governor's School program. Addy Miller has been accepted into the Governor's Scholar Program, while Maggie Drake, Brennan Bartley, and Maggie Childers have been accepted into the Governor's School for the Arts.

BCHS Beta Shines in District Competition

Butler County High School's Beta Club competed in the district competition on Tuesday, April 25. The school's Beta team had several winners across multiple categories, showcasing their academic and leadership skills, as well as their dedication and hard work.
