MES 2nd Graders Honor Local Heroes

This group wrote letters to soldiers.

The 2nd Grade classes (Mrs. Wright, Mrs. Simmons, Mrs. King, and Mrs. Donaldson) from Morgantown Elementary School wrote letters in honor of our local heroes:  Soldiers, EMT, Police, and Firefighters.  The students delivered these letters last week in honor of the anniversary of 9/11.

Some students wrote letters to the EMT's.

Man facing child abuse charges

Caleb Houchens

Butler County Sheriff’s Deputy Justin Deweese responded to a dispatch call at the 4700 block of Bowling Green Road on Thursday, September 12th.  According to two witnesses, a 3-year-old child had been physically abused by Caleb N. Houchens.  The Kentucky Department of Social Services was notified and responded.  Houchens was not at the residence when police arrived.

New Dollar Store and Auto Parts Store to open in Morgantown

Ground work for the new Dollar General Store located between Hood's Market and Sonic.

One business is expanding and a new business is coming to Morgantown.  Dirt is being moved for the new Dollar General Store.  The store will be located on U.S. 231 South (Main Street) between Hood's Market and Sonic. The new store will be a Dollar General Store Market.

Special Called Fiscal Court Meeting Accepts Tax Rates and Hires Animal Shelter Director

The Butler County Fiscal Court met in special session on Monday, September 16th. The agenda awaiting the Court was short, but contained items needing attention ahead of the Court's next regularly scheduled meeting on October 14th.

Butler County Clerk Shirley Givens presented tax figures to the Court for the 13 special taxation districts within Butler County. Those districts are; City of Morgantown, City of Woodbury, City of Rochester, Health Department, Library, Extension Service, Butler County Schools, Ambulance, Big Muddy, Big Reedy, Caney Creek, Mud River, and Fire Protection.

BC Chapter DAR: Constitution Week September 17-23

Butler County School Superintendent Scott Howard, Judge Executive David Fields, and Mayor Linda Keown signed a proclamation on Monday morning declaring September 17-23 as Constitution Week in Morgantown and Butler County. "We look forward to celebrating Constitution Week in the school system and community," said Butler County Chapter DAR Regent Janie Henderson.

The Proclamation reads:

Whereas, September 17, 2013 marks the two hundred and twenty-sixth  anniversary of the Constitution of the United States of America by the Constitutional Convention; and

BC Chapter DAR and VFW Post 5837 Ladies Auxiliary Usher in Constitution Week 2013

The Butler County Chapter NSDAR and VFW Post 5837 have been working jointly on Constitution Week program for Morgantown Elementary School.  Our Constitution Program will be on September 17th, starting with Bells Across America at 8:05AM ringing in Constitution Week and the day’s celebrations.  The Butler County Chapter will start off the morning with a program, “Star Spangled Banner” for second grade classes at MES.  These students will be learning the history of our national anthem and the different flags used over the years through a presentation from Fort McHenry and work sheets that tea

Butler County Grand Jury Indictments

The Butler County Grand Jury returned indictments against 11 individuals on September 3, 2013. Charges include drug trafficking, burglary, rape, torture of a dog, and arson.

An Overdue Thank You

Butler County Sheriff Deputy Joe Alford, Judge David Fields, Bobby Keown, Deputy Heath West

The 12th anniversary of the events of 9/11 had a special event of its own take place Wednesday afternoon during a time of remembrance at Morgantown Care and Rehab. At the end of personal remarks by County Judge Executive David Fields, he called Morgantown resident Bobby Keown to the stage.

The Butler County Board of Education met in regular session on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at Green River School. Members Amy Hood-Hooten, Delbert Johnson, Karen Evans, and Debbie Hammers were in attendance.

Butler County Farm Bureau: 75 Years Serving Butler County Agriculture

Outstanding Young Farm Family, Joey and Sherry Kirby.

Tuesday, September 10th, was the 75th Annual Butler County Farm Bureau Membership Meeting at the Eva J. Hawes Agriculture Exposition and Community Center.  President Betty Farris welcomed everyone to the meeting, followed by Woody Moore giving the invocation.  Greg Drake presented a special video commemorating 75 years of Farm Bureau.  Played over the video was the iconic Paul Harvey’s “God Made the Farmer” poem.
