Red Reigns At 2013 Tractor Show

It was Will Rogers who said, “You never get a second chance to make a good first impression.”  According to feedback received by officials of the Butler County Antique Engine and Tractor Club, this year’s tractor show, which ended Saturday at the Charles BlackCity Park, should have many returning participants next year. This, the 7th annual show, played host to the Ky Chapter #24 International Harvester Red Power Reunion.

BCHS Marching Band Finishes 6th In Semi-Finals of State Competition

The Butler County High School Band placed 6th out of 16 bands and received a Distinguished rating at the semi-state finals on Saturday in Louisville.

Growing Season “Freezes” To A Halt

A very bitter, cold, Canadian airmass is moving into the Bluegrass State, and will bring with it the first subfreezing temperatures of the season by Friday morning.  A freeze warning has been issued for the entire south and west central Kentucky region from 1am – 9am Friday morning.
A Freeze Warning is issued during the growing season when surface temperatures are expected to drop below freezing over a large area for an extended period of time, regardless whether or not frost develops.

Fiscal Court: Roads, Animal Shelter, Donation Requests

A relatively brief, but widely varying agenda awaited the Butler County Fiscal Court on Monday night when they met in their regular meeting for October. Absent from the meeting was 4th District Magistrate David Whittinghill who missed the meeting because of the death of his mother. Also absent was County Attorney Dick Deye who is recovering at home from an illness.

Before the Court addressed the agenda 3rd District Magistrate Chad Tyree and Richie Bratcher from Butler County Cancer Assistance asked to be added to the agenda.

State gives Muhlenberg $435,000 to improve road to TVA plant

Kentucky Press News Service- DRAKESBORO – Gov. Steve Beshear joined local officials Tuesday to present a $435,000 ceremonial check to the Muhlenberg County Fiscal Court for improvements along Riverside Road near the Tennessee Valley Authority Paradise Fossil Plant in Drakesboro.

“Over time, heavy traffic volumes and congestion have eroded the quality of Riverside Road leading to the plant,” Beshear said in a statement. “The improvements made along this route will provide employees and contractors a smooth, safer commute to work.”
