Reedyville RD Hosts Fiscal Court Meeting

The Reedyville RD Club hosted the September meeting of the Butler County Fiscal Court on Monday night. All members were present. A potluck meal was served by the ladies from the Reedyville RD before the meeting. After everyone had dined the business portion of the meeting commenced.

Expect Delays:Inspection of Aberdeen Bridge Starts Sept. 10th

Beginning Monday, Sept. 10, motorists traveling on US 231 between Aberdeen and Morgantown may experience some slight delays while KYTC crews perform a scheduled inspection on the Aberdeen bridge over the Green River. 

A lane closure will be used from 8:00 am to 2:30 pm while crews inspect the underside of the structure with the use of a snooper truck.

The work is expected to be completed by Wednesday, Sept. 19, weather permitting.

Flaggers will be onsite to direct traffic while the lane closure is in place.

Morgantown City Council sets tax rates

Council members Sharon Phelps and Russell Givens.

The Morgantown City Council held a called meeting on Wednesday, September 5, at the Eva J. Hawes  Agriculture and Expo Community Center. Council members Sharon Phelps, Russell Givens, Gary Southerland, and Edra Dean Hampton were in attendance.  With only three items on the agenda, the council held a relatively short meeting as compared to some recent meetings.

BCHS Students Named Sen.Jeff Green Scholars for Outstanding Academic Achievement

FRANKFORT, Ky. — Heston Arnold, Trevor Cardwell, Timothy Carroll, Madison Embry and Cody Lockhart of Butler County High School have been named Senator Jeff Green Scholars by the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA) for their outstanding academic performance in high school. Students earn this designation by achieving a 4.0 grade point average each year of high school and scoring at least a 28 composite on the ACT.

BCMS tackles bullying with educational program

Butler County Middle School has implemented a new Bully-Free Program. The week of August 13th through the 17th the teachers conducted lessons each day on different aspects of bullying and strategies for handling this situation. The lessons were:

Wreck on Natcher

UPDATE: According to law enforcement Christina Gunterman,23, of Owensboro was north bound when her SUV crossed the median and hit the tractor trailer owned by Fikes Truck Line of Arkansas.  The truck went off the right side of the parkway and overturned. Gunterman was not injured.  The driver of the tractor trailer was transported to the Medical Central with non-emergency injuries .

Green River Museum Hosts Book Signing

Roger G. Givens

On Saturday September 1st, a book signing was held for "Images of America: Butler County" a book written by Roger G. Givens, retired newspaper publisher, and Nancy Richey. The book is part of the "Images of America" series published by Arcadia Publishing in South Carolina. Givens states that the book contains a little over 200 photographs, each with a 50-70 word caption. He says they submitted 220 photographs but some were not included by the publisher due to quality limitations.
