MES Hosts 2nd Annual Kentucky Folk Life Festival

On Thursday, September 5th, 2013, many Butler County elementary students experienced Kentucky history through a living history presentation at Morgantown Elementary's 2nd Annual Kentucky Folk Life Festival.  Students were able to personally view items from their history, listen to presentations, ask questions, and many times actually touch items from their past, therefore, enriching their future.

Stories of faith, family, passion, redemption, and humor set the stage ablaze in the musical production “RING OF FIRE—The Life and Music of Johnny Cash.” The music of the Man in Black opens the 2013 – 2014 Season at the Southern Kentucky Performing Arts Center (SKyPAC) in downtown Bowling Green with performances September 20 and 21, 2013. Both performances will be at 7:30 p.m.

Congressman Ed Whitfield on Syria

U.S. Rep. Ed Whitfield (KY-01), Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Energy and Power, today made the following statement regarding military action in Syria.
“I will not support President Obama’s request to authorize missile strikes in Syria. The President has not adequately explained the ultimate goal of such strikes beyond punishing Assad and strengthening the opposition forces. In the absence of a meaningful, clearly defined objective, I am not willing to risk the unintended consequences that may arise from the President’s request.”

Embry to run for new 6th District Senate seat

Representative C. B. Embry Jr. has filed his "Letter of Intent" to run for the 6th District State Senate seat (Butler, Ohio, Muhlenberg and Hopkins Counties) in the 2014 elections.

"It will be a challenge but it appears to be doable. A lot of things can happen between now and the November elections in 2014. I will give it my best effort and we will see what develops. I will continue to serve as 17th District State Representative until December 31, 2014 and I will continue to serve the counties I have been elected to represent for the past 11 years," said Embry.

School Officials, Law Enforcement Investigating Possible Bomb Threat @ BCHS

UPDATE 5:19pm: Butler County High School has been cleared by law enforcement officers. No bomb was found.  The threat is under investigation.

BREAKING NEWS 4:21pm : Butler County Law Enforcement Officers are conducting a sweep of the Butler County High School.  A message was found in a bathroom at the school indicating a possible bomb around 2:30 this afternoon.  The building was cleared and officials notified.Stay connected to BtN for updates.

Keep an eye open for you property tax bill postcard.  Yes, POSTCARD! The way you get your bill has changed.  Your property tax bill will now be similar to your vehicle tax bill.  The sample card pictured above will have all your information listed.  Simply bring the card to the sheriff’s office.
“We wanted to simplify the process and save the county money,” said Sheriff Scottie Ward. 
With over 8,000 tax bills to mail, the postcard is a $4,000 savings in postage alone.  Less paper used and postcard will result in a quicker process for the taxpayer .

UPDATE: "Dan the Dog" Case Dismissed

Sheriff Ward, Robert Cron trade barbs over Cron's shooting of "Dan the Dog"

Update:  All charges against Robert Cron of Roundhill have been dropped by District Court Judge John M. McCarty. The case was dismissed dismissed due to failure of the prosecutor, Greg Hill, to show up for the case.  Hill was named special prosecutor when County Attorney Richard Deye asked to be excused from the case due to a legal history with Mr. Cron.  The over two year legal battle has had several court dates scheduled only to be postponed.

Courthouse now "tobacco free' on 3-2 vote; changes made to ambulance board

The Butler County Courthouse is now a “tobacco free” building,and the ambulance board will now consist of five board members instead of three.  Both decisions were made at a called meeting  of the Butler County Fiscal Court on Thursday night , August 29th.

J Marshall & Judi Hughes Honored for Donation to Boys & Girls Club

J. Marshall and Judi Hughes

The antique store on Hwy 231 is now called the J. Marshall and Judi Hughes building after a naming ceremony Thursday morning.

The Boys and Girls Club of Butler County organized the event to honor J. Marshall and Judi Hughes who donated the building, and much of the money for the remodeling and refurbishment.
