Cantaloupes Connected to Statewide Salmonellosis Outbreak

Public Advised to Avoid Eating Melons Grown in Southwestern Indiana: The Department for Public Health (DPH) today reported that  cantaloupes tested in the state public health laboratory carry the same strain of Salmonella associated with a statewide outbreak that health officials say is still ongoing.

Don Jenkins receives Medal of Honor tribute

Retired US Army Staff Sergeant Don Jenkins received a Medal of Honor tribute Thursday morning at the Butler County High School Library/Media Center. The tribute was put together by Retired US Army Sergeant First Class Richard Powers for Jenkins. Powers presented the tribute to Jenkins at BCHS in front of a small crowd, including members of the Butler County Chapter NSDAR, VFW Ladies Auxillary, as well as members of the Butler County Sheriff's Department, Morgantown Police Department, and the Kentucky State Police.

Morgantown Police Department Recovers Stolen Property

During the night of August 10, unknown person or persons gained entry into unlocked vehicles in the area of Hillview Drive. Stolen from the vehicles were items including: CD`s, extension cords, personal checks, shoes, and jumper cables.

Through the course of the investigation, officers developed a suspect in the case and recovered the stolen property listed above and collected  $1,762.85 worth of forged checks that were written at: IGA, Sav-A-Lot, Bo's Smoke Shop, Fastway, and Pizza Zone in Morgantown.

Air Evac Transports Two in Less Than 24 Hours

Joseph Micheal Brooks (DOB 7/22/46) failed to make a curve this morning while traveling southbound on Rochester Road.  His motorcycle left the road and crashed Brooks was wearing a helment. He was transported by Air Evac to Evansville.

  

The Butler County Rescue Squad, Morgantown Fire Department, Butler County Ambulance Service, and Butler County Sheriff's Department responded to the accident.

Wife Charged with Murder

UPDATE: Kathy M. Boord (DOB 6/11/64) of 12301 Russellville Road, has been indicted by the Butler County Grand Jury on the following charges: Murder, when she intentionally or wantonly with grave indifference to human life, caused the death of her husband Judson Scott Boord.

School Board Recognizes Students, Staff, Reviews BCHS Smoking Policy

The Butler County Board of Education met in regular session on Tuesday, August 14, at 6:30 p.m. at the Butler County Education Complex. Board members Karen Evans, Delbert Johnson, Deborah Hammers and Amy Hood-Hooten were in attendance.

The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Karen Evans and the agenda was approved along with the minutes of the July 17, meeting.

Eric Elms presented the treasurer’s report:
Beginning balance: $377,603.43, receipts: $1,288,399.75, expenditures: $1,253,101.48, ending balance: $412,901.70.

Storage Wars, Morgantown Style

Storage Wars, Morgantown style, recently took place at A&P Self Storage in Ashley Square.  The reality show, Storage Wars, (on the A&E Channel) has created a great deal of interest in unit auctions. 

“I would say the television show, Storage Wars, has increased my crowds,” said Gary Ashley, owner of A& P Self Storage.  “We will have 50-60 show up for the auctions.”

Butler County Judge Executive David Fields

For over two hours on Monday night the Butler County Fiscal Court met in open session at the Butler County Courthouse. The squires discussed issues ranging from the purchase of new Road Department trucks to the erection of another historical monument on the courthouse lawn.

Data from statewide Internet use survey released

(FRANKFORT, Ky.)—The Commonwealth Office of Broadband Outreach and Development (OBOD) and the Kentucky Council of Area Development Districts (KCADD) have announced the results of a statewide public survey asking Kentuckians about their broadband access and use patterns.

The reports are based on data collected from February through April 2012 across Kentucky. More than 2,000 businesses/organizations and 4,000 households contributed to the Kentucky broadband benchmarking effort. Highlights from the survey responses:
