November 9th: Master Commissioner Sales

BY VIRTUE OF A DECREE AND ORDER OF SALE OF THE BUTLER CIRCUIT COURT, the Master Commissioner will sell at public auction the real properties in the following actions on Friday, November 9, 2012 about the hour of 12:00 p.m. at the Courthouse Door of the Butler County Courthouse located on Main Street in Morgantown, Butler County, Kentucky. Said properties shall be sold to collect the amounts hereinafter set forth, together with interest and the costs of the action, and upon the following terms and conditions (unless otherwise stated).

Butler County School Board Recognizes Teachers

Board Chairman Karen Evans and member Delbert Johnson.

The Butler County Board of Education held its monthly meeting Tuesday, October 16, at North Butler Elementary School.

District Finance Officer Eric Elms gave the financial report.  He said the beginning cash balance was $640,305.98, receipts were $1,114,854.95, expenditures were $1,348,053.18, leaving an ending balance of $407,107.25.  

“SEEK money is down about $120,000 and that is due in part to a decrease in enrollment,” said Elms.  We are operating on “ If you don’t need it don’t buy it”, added Elms.

Green River YDC Employees Honored

June Wilson and Jenny French

Recently at the Kentucky Department of Juvenile Justice two employees at Green River Youth Development Center were honored.  Mrs. June Wilson was named the 2012 Department of Juvenile Justice Youth Development Center Employee of the Year.  Mrs. Jeannette French was named the 2012 Department of Juvenile Justice Youth Development Center Facility Food Services of the Year.

The Butler County Grand Jury returned indictments against 14 individuals on October 9, 2012. Charges included burglary, theft,  sexual abuse, and drugs.

Turning Morgantown PINK

The Second Annual Turn Morgantown Pink was held on Sunday afternoon at the Butler County High School Gym and was kicked off with music by the BCHS band.  Becky Hankins welcomed everyone followed by a prayer by Anita Cardwell.

Mona White Daugherty was the keynote speaker sharing her story of surviving breast cancer. 
“I want to encourage everybody to get your mammograms,” said Daugherty.

City Council Talks: Water, lease, mural and new police officer

The Morgantown City Council took the first step in establishing a regional water commission at last night’s meeting.  The commission, under the authority of KRS 74.420,  would govern the Rochester Dam and would be a joint effort between the City of Morgantown, Butler County, and Ohio County to maintain the Rochester Dam and the water supply it creates for the area.  Mayor Linda Keown explained that such a commission could get federal and state grants and low interest loans to maintain the Rochester Dam.  Council member Rick Scott emphasized that surface water is the only source of water for

Right to Hunt and Fish Constitutional Amendment Will be on the Ballot

The National Rifle Association's effort to preserve hunting and fishing for future generations has moved forward into Idaho and Nebraska.  Right to Hunt and Fish Constitutional Amendments will be on the ballot in Idaho, Nebraska and Kentucky this November.  The Kentucky Legislature passed an Amendment last year.
