UPDATE: Emmette Whitehead was returned to jail on July 18th.

Local law enforcement officers are searching for an inmate that escaped from a jail work crew on Thursday morning.

Emmette Whitehead, 46, of Morgantown, was a part of the city work crew, and was on lunch break when he went to the restroom and never returned. He was reported missing at approximately 11:15 a.m. The jail was notified at that time, along with the Butler County Sheriff’s Office, the Kentucky State Police, and surrounding law enforcement agencies.

The Butler County Grand Jury returned indictments against 17 individuals on July 8, 2014. Charges include rape, arson, drug trafficking, burglary, wanton endangerment, and flagrant non-support.

The regular monthly meeting of the Butler County Fiscal Court was held Monday, July 14th, 2014 at 6 pm at the Butler County Courthouse. All members were present, and a handful of visitors were also in attendance. The agenda was short, but lengthened by requests to speak from Magistrates Chad Tyree, David Whittinghill, and Johnny Tuck, and also from County Road Department mechanic Anthony Perrin.

Fourteen Kentucky schools will receive a fiscal year 2015 Teaching Art Together grant from the Kentucky Arts Council to conduct artist residencies with students during the first half of the school year. North Butler Elementary will receive $1,800.

The Teaching Art Together grant allows teachers across the Commonwealth to collaborate with practicing, professional artists from the arts council's Teaching Artist Directory to design and implement one- to four-week residencies.

On Monday, July 7, 2014, a Cadillac hearse that had been reported stolen to the Bowling Green Police Department was located behind Jumpin’Jacks by Officer James Embry.  After checking through the computer, Officer Embry discovered the hearse has been reported stolen from Cone Funeral home in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

On Saturday morning a new business opened their office in Butler County. A ribbon cutting was held at Whitetail Properties Land Specialist Boyce Flener’s office, next to the Farm Boy Restaurant.  Whitetail Properties is part of the Butler County Small Business Incubator Program.  Greg Drake, Kathryn Jennings, and Dwayne McKinney are the three volunteers trained by the UK Extension Service Kentucky Entrepreneurial Coach Institute that operate the program in Butler County.

The Morgantown City Council took up safety concerns at the city park, a contract to improve efficiency in utilities, and two funding requests at their regular meeting Thursday.
