Heart to Heart Publishing Attends Frankfort Book Fair

Butler County business owner, Linda J. Hawkins was invited to attend the 33rd annual Frankfort Kentucky Book Fair. In attendance were 4 new authors, with 6 new titles showcased, by Heart to Heart Publishing Inc. .

Test scores, energy concerns, lunch charges among topics discussed at Board of Education meeting

The Butler County Board of Education met in regular session on Tuesday, November 11, at Butler County Middle School.  Chairperson Karen Evans called the meeting to order and the Board got down to business.  After approving the minutes from the previous meeting, Eric Elms gave the treasurer’s report:
Beginning Balance: $1,500,258.25
Expenses:  $1,542,865.90
Receipts:  $1,510,859.20
Ending Balance: $1,468,251.55

Fundraiser for Roger Tanner Huge Success

“You never know how many friends you have until a time of need,” you hear this quote often but Roger Tanner knew on Saturday as a continuous flow of people filled the 2nd District Fire Department.  A fundraiser was organized by Barbara Duncan, Susie Schenborn, Becky Grise , Kathy Oberhausen and many others to  help with hospital bills for  Tanner, who had been injured in a tractor accident.

BOOK IT! Mr. "Tooth Fairy" Flener reads to MES students

BOOK IT!® Program Honors National Young Readers Week Nov. 10-14 With Principal Challenge- This year, Mr. Chad Flener, Assistant Principal at Morgantown Elementary, dressed as the Tooth Fairy and read in the front foyer of MES. Last week students voted between Santa Claus, a turkey, the tooth fairy, and a beach bum. Tooth Fairy won with 95% of the votes!! Classes also came and were able to enjoy a story read to them by Mr. Flener.

Butler County Grand Jury Indictments

The Butler County Grand Jury returned indictments against 25 individuals on November 10, 2014.  Arraignment date for all the individuals is December 9, 2014 at the Butler County Courthouse.  Charges include sodomy, burglary, drugs, and flagrant non-support.

Fiscal Court: Ferry, Bids, Fuel, and Resource Officer

The Butler County Fiscal Court met for their regular November meeting in Monday night, November 10th. All members were present, as well as visitors from Ingram Brothers Trucking, Trane, and Baker Electromotive.

Two items of old business were first on the agenda. Magistrates revisited bids for the new Courthouse break room, and for upgrades and renovations to the Reeds Ferry operators building.

KSP Promotes 37 Officers, Including Brian McKinney

Sgt. Brian McKinney with a special appearance by Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient Sgt. Don Jenkins.

The Kentucky State Police recognized the promotion of 37 officers throughout the state at a ceremony held  at the Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History in Frankfort. One major, five captains, eight lieutenants and 23 sergeants were commissioned. Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient Sgt. Don Jenkins,of Morgantown was on hand for the ceremony.
Senior Trooper Brian C. McKinney was promoted to Sergeant, Post 6, Dry Ridge. A resident of Morgantown, McKinney is a 10 year veteran of the agency.

Butler Co. NSDAR Veteran of the Year Denver Beliles

Veterans attending the breakfast. Thank you for your service.

The Butler County Daughters of the American Revolution hosted their Annual Veterans’ Breakfast on Saturday, November 8th at the Butler County High School Commons Area.  Regent Jane Eaton-Henderson welcomed everyone, followed by the pledge led by Lois Martin Russ.  Peggy Ayers Drake, Chaplain, gave the invocation prior to breakfast being served.

Over $6,000 Raised for Morgantown Mission Holiday Food Boxes

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, to all the individuals, groups, and organizations that donated to the Morgantown Mission Radiothon . “God always takes care of us,” said Garry McKinney, director of the Morgantown Mission.

 As of Friday afternoon the total amount raised by the WLBQ 101.5 FM radio fund raiser was $, which equals 205 boxes of food for those in need during the holidays.  The $30 box will contain turkey or ham, vegetables, potatoes, rolls, stuffing, gravy, and a dessert.
