Butler Co. NSDAR Veteran of the Year Denver Beliles

The Butler County Daughters of the American Revolution hosted their Annual Veterans’ Breakfast on Saturday, November 8th at the Butler County High School Commons Area.  Regent Jane Eaton-Henderson welcomed everyone, followed by the pledge led by Lois Martin Russ.  Peggy Ayers Drake, Chaplain, gave the invocation prior to breakfast being served. 

The Chapter honored Denver Beliles as the Veteran of the Year.  Beliles was unable to attend the breakfast; however, the following account of his service to the country was presented by Lois Russ:

Denver Beliles was presented a Purple Heart Certificate earlier in the year by the ladies of the DAR and VFW Post.
Denver Elbern Beliles is a WWII veteran, born on 19 March 1923 in Butler County. He lives in the Quality community. He is the son of the late Loyd Raymond Beliles and Hallie Eugena (McCoy) Beliles. He was married twice to Mary Ruth Grubb and Ruby Buckley, both deceased. He has no children.
 
Denver enlisted in the Army on the May 27, 1943 at Evansville, IN. He was stationed at Ft. Benjamin Harrison, IN and was in Normandy and Northern France and Central Europe. He was discharged in January of 1946.
 
Some of the awards that Denver received were: the Purple Heart, 4 Bronze Stars, WWII Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
 
 He is retired from The Chrysler Corporation. A certificate will be presented to Beliles at a later date.


Veterans voted for their favorite drawing in the Art for Heroes contest.  Students from Morgantown Elementary and Butler County High School participated in the contest.  The winners will be announced at the Veterans’’ Day program on Tuesday, November 11 at 9:00am at the Butler County High School gym.  Everyone is invited to attend.
