Wreath laying ceremonies honor local veterans

"We are gathered here to pause, reflect, and honor our fellow comrades who are serving, who have served and those who have made the supreme sacrifice in the defense of our great nation."  
With those words by Tom Petznick, President of the Capt. Charles Duncan Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, a wreath laying ceremony honoring veterans was held in Morgantown at Riverview and Bell Street cemeteries on Saturday, December 13.

Great Onyx Job Corp and Reedyville RD Work Together

Twelve students from the Great Onyx Job Corp, along with their teacher Timmy Basham, were welcomed to the Reedyville Rural Development Club on October 29, 2014.  The students were there as a training/educational program to replace and repair pipes and drains in the community center.  The students are studying and working in the area of plumbing and used this experience to improve/increase their skills.  The Club was responsible for purchasing the necessary plumbing supplies and a dehumidifier which the students also permanently connected.

Bluegrass Cellular Expands 4G LTE Network in Morgantown

Elizabethtown, KY (Dec. 15, 2014) – More residents in Butler County now have access to 4G LTE, the most-advanced 4G network, on their Bluegrass Cellular mobile devices. Today, Bluegrass announced that it has expanded its 4G LTE network in and around Morgantown, Ky.

 In addition to covering the community of Morgantown itself, the expansion provides 4G LTE coverage to areas along the William Natcher Parkway both north and south of Morgantown, along highways 231, 79 and 70 – both west and southwest of Morgantown – and along highway 79 northeast of Morgantown.

Flener named new principal at M.E.S.

Chad Flener

During a called meeting on Friday afternoon, the Morgantown Elementary Site-Based Decision Making Council principal selection committee voted unanimously to hire current Assistant Principal Chad Flener as the school's new principal.  Flener will replace long-time Principal Greg Woodcock, who is retiring at the end of the fall term.  Flener worked for several years as a teacher at Morgantown Elementary before becoming assistant principal in 2010. He will assume his new responsibilities as principal with the beginning of the spring term in January 2015.

City Council: Roadblocks, Insurance, and Sidewalks

The Morgantown City Council approved a new sidewalk project and the city’s insurance policy at their regular meeting Thursday, and it engaged in a debate on fundraising roadblocks within the city.

VFW Commander-in-Chief to visit Morgantown

John W. Stroud, Commander-in-Chief will visit the local VFW Post 5837, Dec. 17, 2014. He will join us for lunch and the post is inviting all veterans to meet and greet the National Commander. Lunch will be served at noon and the Commander will arrive at 11:45 am.
John W. Stroud was elected Commander-in-Chief at the 115th National Convention held in St .Louis, Mo.

Busy meeting for B.C. Board of Education

The Butler County Board of Education met in regular session Tuesday, December 9.  After calling the meeting to order, the agenda and minutes of the last meeting were approved and  following the treasurer’s report, it was learned that the district is in slightly better financial shape than this time last year due to property tax revenue being up.

B.C. Arts Guild: Celebration of Lights & Sounds

With the covered mural and Christmas trees as a backdrop, emcee Boyce Flener welcomed everyone to the B.C. Arts Guild's Celebration of Lights and Sounds.

The Christmas spirit was alive and well in Morgantown on Saturday evening as many in the community rallied around the mural for the Butler County Arts Guild Celebration of Lights and Sounds. 

A large crowd attended the event.

Morgantown Christmas Parade

The 2014 Morgantown-Butler County Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade was a success. Saturday was a beautiful day and the parade did not disappoint. Morgantown was packed with spectators as Santa came to town.  The Morgantown Police Department and the Butler County Sheriff’s Department lead the parade through town. 
Richie Bratcher served as Grand Marshal of the parade. Shirley Allen served as emcee. Floats, elected officials, clowns, antique cars and trucks, business vehicles, and scouts were just a few of the entries.
