The Morgantown City Council addressed several issues at a special called meeting Tuesday night, but it took action on just a portion of its agenda.

New Diversion Will Open on US 231 in Butler County on Friday, Nov. 29

 A new diversion will open on US 231 in Butler County on Friday, Nov. 29. The widening project of US 231 from mile point 9 (Natcher Parkway) to mile point 11 (KY 403) will continue, but motorists need to be aware of the new diversion. Lane restrictions will begin at 7 a.m. and may continue throughout the day until 5 p.m. Motorists need to slow down and use caution when traveling through the area. The speed limit is 35mph.

Morgantown Mission distributes over 100 holiday meals as part of WLBQ Radio-thon

A holiday food box.

The Morgantown Mission gave away over 100 food boxes for Thanksgiving on Monday, November 25th. On November 8th the second Annual Morgantown Mission Radio-thon on WLBQ 1570 AM raised over $5,000 for the holiday food boxes.  Morgantown Mission director Garry McKinney picked up the turkeys on Monday morning and families were waiting in the parking lot for their boxes.

NBES Receives A Grant From Macy's to Perform "Yes, Virginia The Musical"

This holiday season, North Butler Elementary will stage a performance of “Yes, Virginia The Musical,” an original production based on a true story of 8-year-old Virginia O’Hanlon, who wrote a letter to the New York Sun newspaper in 1897, inquiring about the existence of Santa Claus. The school musical program debuted last year as part of Macy’s holiday “Believe” campaign and was performed by elementary and middle schools nationwide.

WLBQ Radio Auction Nets $8,879 for Boys & Girls Club

UPDATE: The Annual Boys & Girls Club’s Radio Auction was held on Saturday in the lobby of Morgantown Bank & Trust.  Bruce White and Tom Jones hit the air waves on WLBQ 1570 AM at 8:00am and the phones started ringing.  By the end of the auction the grand total raised was $8,879.

Red Cross urges winter blood donations

Give something that means something and offer hope-  The holidays bring families and friends together to share in celebrations and special times of giving. But for families dealing with a cancer diagnosis or other major illness, the holidays can be difficult.

The American Red Cross’ Give Something that Means Something winter campaign runs through Jan. 6, 2014, and encourages eligible donors to give something meaningful this holiday season by donating blood or platelets for hospital patients in need.

Operation Butler County Christmas Toys for Tots 2013

Once again the Butler County Family Resource and Youth Services Centers and the Morgantown Mission are asking for your help to provide Christmas Toys for Butler County Children.  Anyone wishing to make a monetary donation can make their checks to BC FRC Christmas Fund and mail to PO Box 728, Morgantown.  Toy donations can be dropped off at any of the 3 locations or any Toys for Tots box in town.  Last year gifts were provided for 411 children along with food baskets for 18 families.  In the past we have strived to involve the entire community in order to lessen the duplication of services t

UPDATE: As of Tuesday, November 19, 2013, Doug Odle has filed his papers to run for first district magistrate.

UPDATE: As of Friday afternoon the following individuals had also filed their papers to run for elected office: Billy J. Phelps candidate for mayor of Morgantown, Richard V. West candidate for fourth district magistrate, incumbents Butler County Coroner Gerald "Marty" Jones,  and second district magistrate Johnny Tuck.

EF1 Tornado Confirmed In Huntsville

Louisville NWS Warning Coordination Meteorologist Joe Sullivan assesses damage with Butler County Emergency Manager Terry Hunt.

Early Monday morning Landon Hampton, Beech Tree News Meteorologist, along with two members from Louisville’s National Weather Service, set out for a storm survey in the Huntsville community.  After reports and photos of damage were sent to the NWS Office, they felt the need to conduct a storm survey to determine the cause of the damage. When dealing with storms such as the one on Sunday, there are two main factors that could have caused the destruction…straight-line winds, or a tornado.
