Friday night December 13, Rochester had their annual Community Christmas celebration at the Rochester Community Building.  Within minutes of the 6 p.m. start time, Rochester residents began filling the building in anticipation of a great evening celebrating the Christmas season.

BCHS Arts Exhibition set for this weekend

The Butler County High School River Arts Exhibition has had one bump in the road on the way to its inaugural showing. Weather forced postponement of the event from Dec 7th and 8th, to Saturday and Sunday, December 14th and 15th.

BC Farm Bureau receives 2013 Young Farmer Gold Star Award of Excellence

Recognized for the achievements of its Young Farm Program this year, Butler County Farm Bureau received the 2013 Gold Star Award of Excellence during Kentucky Farm Bureau’s annual meeting in Louisville. The award honors a county’s Young Farmer Committee for its active participation in Farm Bureau leadership development programs, state competitions, and educational or promotional initiatives.

Informational Meeting Planned for Affordable Health Care Act

On January 1, 2014, the Affordable Health Care Act goes into effect and Tracy Cowles, County Extension Agent for Family & Consumer Sciences, will host an informational meeting on Saturday, December 14 beginning at 9 a.m. at the Butler County Extension Office.  Gina Tynes with Hocker Insurance Agency will explain how the law affects you or your family. NOTE:  INFORMATION WILL BE FOR PEOPLE UNDER 65 YEARS OF AGE AND NOT MEDICARE-ELIGIBLE.  This program will be for people who already have insurance and people who don’t – but want to.

Community remembers veterans on Pearl Harbor Day

“We gather here, on this memorable day known as Pearl Harbor Day, we pause to reflect and honor our fellow comrades who are serving, who have served and have made the supreme sacrifice in the defense of our great nation.  Let us not forget what they have done to keep our country free and to protect our Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness,” said Tom Petznick, President Captain Charles Duncan Chapter Sons of Revolution, on Saturday morning in the Butler County Courthouse lawn.

Butler County wakes up to deep freeze

Sunday morning the good folks of Butler County and the surrounding area woke up to frigid temperatures and a icy wonderland. Temperatures Saturday night again nosedived below freezing and set the stage for freezing rain. According to Beech Tree News Meteorologist Landon Hampton what happened was “ We had warm moisture flow up from the Gulf of Mexico and it settled on top of the Arctic air mass which was already in place and as the moisture fell it froze to anything it touched”.

BC Farm Bureau honored as KY Farm Bureau’s 2013 “Top County”

In a competition measuring the total impact of a county Farm Bureau’s programming, Butler County Farm Bureau has emerged as the overall winner for 2013. Butler County’s leaders received a trophy today at the 94th Kentucky Farm Bureau annual meeting, held at the Galt House Hotel in Louisville, honoring them as the state’s “Top County.”

Recognized for the achievements of its women’s program this year, Butler County Farm Bureau received the 2013 Gold Star Award of Excellence during Kentucky Farm Bureau’s annual meeting in Louisville. The award honors county Women’s Committees for active participation in leadership development programs, agricultural promotion, educational initiatives and numerous other aspects of support to the local Farm Bureau.
