Demand for Electric Power

UPDATE: Resume Normal Use of Electricity

The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) announced that customers may resume normal use of electricity.
Yesterday, Warren RECC members were asked to voluntarily reduce electric usage in an effort to keep the system stable to reduce the possibility of outages. At 6:42 a.m. Thursday, Warren RECC reached its peak, and demand began falling.

Warren RECC and TVA appreciate the efforts of our members in helping to reduce electric load during this time.

The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) is asking for voluntary reduction in the use of electricity beginning at 5 p.m. today.

Wednesday’s peak power demand is expected to occur this evening as regional temperatures are forecast to drop into single digits causing electricity demand to exceed 31,000 megawatts. Another peak demand will occur again Thursday morning with electric loads peaking around 32,400 megawatts. In comparison, demand was just below 32,500 megawatts one year ago today.

Warren RECC is asking its residential, commercial and industrial customers to cooperate in reducing power usage during this critical situation.  Consumers should:

  •     Turn down the thermostat. Lowering the temperature just one degree can result in a savings of up to 3 percent.
  •     Postpone using electric appliances such as dishwashers, dryers, and cooking equipment

  •     Turn off nonessential lights, appliances, and other electrical equipment.

Warren RECC will continue to issue updates throughout the week.
