MCRC to host Hall of Fame induction ceremony program honors residents, staff and community members

Morgantown Care and Rehab Center will host a Hall of Fame Café celebration next month to honor residents at the local nursing home.
The purpose of the Hall of Fame program is to recognize the outstanding accomplishments and experiences of the center’s residents. Employees, volunteers and community members are also honored for their contributions to the home and society as a whole.
This year’s honorees for Morgantown Care and Rehab Center are:
•    Ernest Board, Resident (In Memoriam)
•    James Hunter, Resident
•    Joyce Annis, Former Resident

2015 Butler County Stockman’s Sale Kick-Off Field Day is a Huge Success

On September 26th, some of Butler County’s best livestock producers gathered at the Wayne and Mary Hatcher Farm in southern Butler County for the Stockman’s Sale Kick-Off Field Day.  The educational event featured talks and demonstrations about several aspects of cattle management and nutrition.  Sixty people attended, coming from all corners of Butler County.  There were presentations from the Kentucky Department of Agriculture, The Kentucky Beef Network, and the local Stockman’s Association.

 Butler County Judge Executive David Fields signed a proclamation on Thursday, October 1st declaring October as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in Butler County.  Joining Judge Fields were survivors Becky Hankins and Shanna Drake, her husband Greg and daughter Maggie, American Cancer Society Representative for Butler County Molly Embry, Audrey Pendley, Sherry Johnson, Butler County Court Clerk, and Suzanne Brosnan, PVA.
October marks the beginning of Breast Cancer Awareness month, an annual campaign that aims to increase knowledge and awareness of the disease.

Rochester Dam Regional Water Commission Announces Lease of Rochester Dam

(Hartford, KY)- Effective October 1, the Rochester Dam Regional Water Commission (RDRWC) will commence a twenty-five year management lease with the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) to preserve Green River Lock and Dam No. 3, known as Rochester Dam.  This lease will enable RDRWC to protect and preserve the pool level that is a vital water supply for the region.   The pool of Green River Lock and Dam No. 3 provides the only water source for healthy, safe drinking water to nearly 50,000 residents in Ohio, Butler, and Muhlenberg Counties.

Butler County Schools: 2014-2015 KPREP

The 2014-2015 Unbridled Learning Accountability test data Kentucky Performance Rating for Educational Progress (K-PREP) has been released. The data covers several areas:  student achievement, gap, student growth,graduation rate and college and career readiness for districts and schools.

Routine business for magistrates at Monday's meeting

The Butler County Fiscal Court met in its final regular session for September on Monday night. All magistrates were present along with some interested onlookers and visitors.
After approving the minutes from prior meetings the magistrates dealt with a short agenda. The first item was approval of payments from the $100-Mile Litter Abatement fund. Payments were approved to; Reedyville Rural Development-$596, BCHS Baseball-$595, and BCHS Baseball Boosters-$624. The motion to approve the payments passed by a 5-0 vote.

North Butler Elementary a Proficient School for 2nd Consecutive Year

On Wednesday, September 29th the staff of NBES was informed by Principal Josh Belcher that the school has been classified as Proficient/Progressing for the 2nd consecutive year.  The classification is a result of the Unbridled Learning Accountability System and the schools performance on the annual Kentucky Performance Rating for Educational Progress Assessment (K-PREP). The K-PREP assessment measures performance in the following areas at the elementary level:
* Math and reading for all students grades 3-5

Heart to Heart Publishing Presents Jack's Tales

Tuesday, Sept 28 was celebration day at Hanson VA Center.

 Heart to Heart Publishing,Inc was honoring Author Lynn Kendrick, 84 years young and Artist Jeannie Kittinger. Mrs. Kendrick's son is a patient at the VA center. He was happy to see his mother enjoy a grand time with her new book and the signing of, Jack's Tales.

 This is a true story about a little donkey from the Western Kentucky coal fields when she was a child. Her special friend for 29 years. She was born and raised in KY, yet traveled the world with her military husband before settling in IL.

Butler school 'hurting' after child killed

MORGANTOWN — Clinging to her teacher’s hand at Morgantown Elementary School, a tiny girl with ringlets of pale blonde hair was brought to the office Tuesday morning to speak to a grief counselor about the tragic loss of her schoolmate, Jayden Hawkins.

Jayden, 5, a kindergarten student, was struck and killed by a Butler County Schools bus Monday afternoon after he exited the bus in front of his grandmother’s home, Kentucky State Police Post 3 spokesman Trooper B.J. Eaton said.
