BCHS Prom 2012

One of the biggest nights of the school year, Prom Night, was held on Saturday.  Shopping, hair and nail appointments, and tanning bed visits were all on the list of things to do this past week.  The parking lot filled up quickly for all those wanting to get a glimspe of the couples and singles all dressed up. 


SUPA's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Huge Success

The Butler County High School SUPA program has been very well known for years about putting on some amazing plays.  This year though they gave a performance suited for all ages, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.  Everybody is very familiar with the two movies versions of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.  Each version has its different qualities, but the show that SUPA put on stayed more true to the novel written by Roald Dahl.


Road Work: US 231

Motorists can expect slow moving traffic on US 231 between the Gasper River Bridge and Hadley School Road (mm 21-mm 22) as KYTC crews make slide repairs beginning today.

Crews will be working Monday thru Friday, 6 am until 6 pm, and will use lane closures during that time. Motorists are advised to reduce their speed and pay attention to flaggers as they drive through this work zone.

The work is scheduled for completion in approximately 6 weeks, weather permitting.


Deja Vu Consignments ribbon-cutting ceremony

The Morgantown-Butler County Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly opened Déjà Vu Consignments on Friday, April 27. Déjà Vu Consignments, owned by Danny and Terri Sallee, has everything to offer from clothes and jewelry to televisions and computers.

2012 Relay For Life

The 2012 Relay for Life will be held on Friday May 4th at the BCHS football and track field.  The opening ceremony will be at 6:00 p.m. with Flag Presentation and the Star Spangled Banner, which will be sung by Rachel Johnson, Bailey Hunt, Allison Kurfiss and Lennon Johnson.  The speaker will be Tina Martin Porter. There will be fabulous music by Resurrection Bound, Hollow Drive, and Tiffany Winchell and, yet to be confirmed, Hannah Embry.


Friendly Furniture going out of business after 40+ years

Friendly Furniture has been open for business in Morgantown for over 40 years, however, that will soon come to an end. Owners Bill and Vicky Freedle say that with the economy the way it is, and some health issues, it's just time for the store to go.

"I'm going to be 69 in a few weeks and we both have some health issues," said Bill, "And we have grandchildren that we would like to spend time with. There are places we would like to go, things that we'd like to do, and people we'd like to see."


Hall, Fields, VonAxelson accepted to Governor's Scholars Program

Three Butler County High School students have been accepted to the prestigious Governor's Scholars Program. Juniors Alex Hall, Sierra Fields, and Austin VonAxelson will spend five weeks of their summer living and studying on a college campus with other high school juniors.


Butler County ATC Students Host Health Career Expo at MES

Through a grant obtained through Community Education, students from the Butler County Area Technical Center were able to put their skills into action as they hosted a Career Fair at Morgantown Elementary School on Friday, April 20th, 2012.


City Council Votes to Reduce Next Council's Pay By 15 Percent

In a special called work session and meeting Tuesday night at the Eva J. Hawes building, Morgantown city council got down to the business of setting the council pay for those who will be elected this fall. KRS 83A.070 states that compensation for the next elected council must be set by ordinance by the first Monday in May during an election year.


Morgantown Utilities Performing Sewer Inspections

Morgantown Utilities would like to inform their customers that they will be performing routine sewer inspections that will require using smoke.  Starting Tuesday, April 24th and continuing all week.  Streets involved Tuesday will be Sunset Loop, Thomas Street, Old Logansport Road, and GL Smith Street.  There is no reason for alarm, but should you see smoke inside or outside your home along your sewer system, please call Morgantown Utilities at 526-3623.
