The 58th Butler County Rural Development Annual Meeting was Saturday night, November 7th, at the Eva Hawes Agriculture Exposition Center with about 70 people in attendance.  Each year the four remaining rural development clubs come together to celebrate the year’s accomplishments.  Attendees enjoyed a wonderful meal prepared by the clubs.  Becky and the Butler County Boys played music to entertain the group.  Reedyville, Provo, Big Bend, and Little Muddy communities all still have operating rural development clubs and their presidents provided an update about club activities for the year. 

Tommy D Justice was born in 1948 to Thurman and Lucille Justice in Warren County, Kentucky. He graduated from Warren County High School in 1966 and later with an Associate's Degree for Industrial Electricity from Bowling Green Tech.  Tommy retired after 42 years from DESA International, the last ten years he served as Maintenance Supervisor/Manager.
He entered the United States Army in 1968 doing his basic training in Fort Campbell, KY and AIT at Fort Polk, Louisiana. He served in Vietnam from July 1968 to June 1969.

Arlington, Va. – On Wednesday, November 4, American Trucking Associations presented James Hylan Grise of Walmart Transportation in Hopkinsville, Kentucky with the National Driver of the Year Award. The award was presented at the ATA Safety, Security and Human Resources National Conference taking place in Little Rock, Ark.

Morgantown based auction company Elite Auction Group recently announced its opening. The business provides full auctioneering services including estate auctions, personal property auctions, farm auctions, storage unit auctions, real estate auctions, business liquidation auctions, vehicle repossession auctions and benefit/charity auctions.

“I go where people need me to be,” states owner Erin Moore. “I would be happy to discuss any of your auction needs."

The Morgantown- Butler County Chamber of Commerce held the 2015 Annual Awards Dinner on Monday night at the Eva J. Hawes Building. 

Morgantown Mayor Billy Phelps said he truly wants to know how the public thinks he is doing since taking office.  Now, the mayor is giving citizens the opportunity to tell him what they really think.   

"Last year during my campaign I made promises that if I got elected on November 4th (a year ago today), I would do my very best to make a difference in our community.  Below I will list each of the promises I made, along with a summary of what I have done so far.

Republican Matt Bevin has defeated Democrat Jack Conway to become only the second Republican Kentucky governor in four decades.

Bevin's election gives Republicans control of the executive branch along with a commanding majority in the state Senate. Democrats still have an eight-seat majority in the state House of Representatives.

Morgantown Bank & Trust held their Grand Opening Celebration at their new New Drive Thru/ATM facility located at 208 South Main Street on Friday, October 30th. Free hot dogs and water were handed out to the customers.  The winner of the grand prize of $500.00 was Carolyn Williams. 

The Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce honored 16 businesses with awards at the annual Targeted Business and Industry Banquet held at the Knicely Center. Bowling Green Metalforming received the top award of the evening, the John B. Holland Business of the Year Award.

The Butler County Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution hosted a dinner honoring Vietnam Veterans the evening of Saturday, Oct. 24. The event, which is part of a national United States of America 50th Anniversary Vietnam War Commemoration, was held in Morgantown. Its purpose was to honor Vietnam Era Veterans and families including MIA, KIA and those who have already passed.
