Joshua O'Driscoll Awarded Purple Heart

Joshua O'Driscoll received the Purple Heart from  State Command Sgt. Major RET Facility Branch Manager KY Army National Guard Gregory D. Armstrong.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary Post 5837 and the Butler County Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution held a Purple Heart Recognition Ceremony on Saturday, August 2nd in the Butler County Courthouse lawn.  Lynda Knight, VFW Ladies Auxiliary President, welcomed everyone followed by the presentation of colors by the Butler County High School NJROCTC. The pledge to the flag was led by Jennifer Odle, American Chairman of the Ladies Auxiliary, and Vietnam Veteran Doug Odle sang the National Anthem. Georgia Romans led the group in prayer.

Some countries have become united in the cause of creating safe disposal techniques, yet others are divided, claiming to disprove them.

July 2014 One of Coolest On Record In Region and Kentucky

July 2014 will go down as one of the coolest on record, according to state climatologist Stuart Foster.

“Statewide this will certainly be among the top 10 coolest Julys going back to 1895 and will likely be in the top five,” said Dr. Foster, director of the Kentucky Climate Center and the Kentucky Mesonet at WKU.

Called Fiscal Court Meeting

The Butler County Fiscal Court met in a called session on Monday, July 28th.  Magistrates Stevie Givens, Chad Tyree, Johnny Tuck and David Whittinghill were in attendance. During the July 14, 2014 meeting the court approved a 2% annual pay increase plus a .50 cent per hour increase for County Road Department employees, jail employees, county secretary, and treasurer. Some discussion was had about the raises, mostly centered on state regulations that limit spending during election years. The measure passed by a 5-0 vote.

WarrenRECC Scam Alert

WarrenRECC has received reports that some residents and businesses have been contacted by individuals representing themselves as employees of WarrenRECC and attempting to obtain credit card information.  The caller tells the member he or she has an overdue bill, which can be paid for over-the-phone with a credit card.  WarrenRECC employees do not accept credit card information over-the-phone.  These calls are being reported as coming from different areas within the cooperative's 8-county service territory.

Boys and Girls Club featured at Chamber Luncheon

The  Morgantown-Butler County Chamber of Commerce held their monthly luncheon on Thursday.  The meal was catered by Up In Smoke and sponsored by Morgantown-Butler County Chamber of Commerce, White Real Estate and Auction, and McDonald’s. 
According to Chamber President James Runion the weather was perfect for the Catfish Festival and they were able to give $7,000 to area non-profit organizations for their work during the festival.  The Chamber netted a little over $20,000 from the festival.

Taylor Named to LifeSkills Board

Amanda Taylor was recently appointed to represent Butler County on the Board of Directors of LifeSkills, Inc.
Amanda is stay at home mom and has been a Butler County resident for 28 years.  She is married to Robert Taylor, Owner/Operator of Taylor & Taylor Farms.  She has been involved with Butler County Farm Bureau Board of Directors; Mt Vernon Baptist Church Youth Director and the Kentucky Baptist Fellowship Coordinating Council Member.

Community Discusses City Park Security

On Tuesday, July 22, concerned citizens gathered beneath the first pavilion at the city park to take part in a discussion regarding a new community watch effort. Morgantown Police Chief Charlie Swiney was present to lead the discussion.
