City Council Hears Concerns About City Park

The Morgantown City Council took up safety concerns at the city park, a contract to improve efficiency in utilities, and two funding requests at their regular meeting Thursday.

Accident on Caneyville Road Sends 4 to Hospital

A two vehicle accident on Caneyville Road sent four people to the hospital on Monday morning around 10:29am.

Catfish Festival wraps Saturday night; fishing tournament winners announced

Chamber President James Runion congratulates Joey Summers on catching the largest catfish of the tournament.  Summers was also the top money prize winner at $2,100.

The 2014 Green River Catfish Festival came to a close on Saturday night during closing ceremonies at the Charles Black Park in Morgantown.  The key part of the Festival closing is announcing winners for the fishing tournament.  Two tagged catfish were caught this year.  Roger Dortch caught tag #0153 on July 3 and L.C. Duncan caught tag #0152 on July 5.  Dortch's fish was worth $100 and was sponsored by Landmark Realty.  Duncan's fish was worth $100 and was sponsored by Chad's Body Shop and Wrecker Service.

Several young ladies took the stage on the second night of the Green River Catfish Festival in the 2-7 year olds pageants.

Day 1: Catfish Festival underway despite downpour

The 2014 Green River Catfish Festival officially kicked off yesterday at the Charles Black City Park in Morgantown.  James Runion, president of the Morgantown-Butler County Chamber of Commerce, started the opening ceremony by describing the Festival as a time for "food, family, friends, fellowship, and fishing."  In a race with the oncoming rain, the Butler County High School NJROTC Color Guard presented the flags and Kyle Whitaker performed the National Anthem.

The first night of the Green River Catfish Festival kicked off with the Miss Butler County Catfish, Miss Teen, and Miss Pre-Teen pageants. This pageant was open to Butler County residents only.

Two-vehicle crash sends woman, child to hospital

Logansport Road was the site of an early afternoon accident with injuries involving two vehicles - one driven by Sheila Ann Childres and the other by Dustin E. Wester.  Dispatch received a call at approximately 3:50 p.m. reporting the wreck.  According to Butler County Sheriff's Deputy Chris Reneer, Childres was pulling out of her driveway at 4164 Logansport Road in a green Chevrolet car when she was struck by Wester, who was driving a red Chevrolet 4WD pick-up.  Apparently, Childres was heading toward Morgantown and failed to see Wester, who was traveling north away from town.

Terrell House Joins the Mayor's Race

Terrell House filed his papers to run for Morgantown Mayor this afternoon at the Butler County Courthouse.  House has served as a councilman for the past eight years.  The filing deadline for city mayor and council is August 12, 2014. Currently, there are three mayor candidates, Billy Phelps, Josh Givens, and Terrell House.

The Landfill Battle Starts Again

At the special session of the Butler County Fiscal Court on Thursday night a lawsuit involving Butler County was discussed and explained.

Third District Magistrate Chad Tyree asked to discuss the suit. Tyree said people were confused about the lawsuit, and the future of a landfill owned by the City of Bowling Green in Butler County.
