Heritage Animal Hospital Under New Ownership

Heritage Animal Hospital opened its doors in 1984 under the watchful eye of Dr. Van Cohron. They have been providing skilled veterinary care in the Butler County area ever since. Now, that tradition continues under new ownership. Dr. Steve Hampton has purchased the practice.  Hampton, who sold his veterinary practice in Tennessee to return to Butler County to raise his family, starting working part- time at Heritage Animal Hospital in 2008; part- time soon turned into a full time job.

Democratic State Candidates Visit Morgantown

The 2011 slate of Democrat candidates for state offices rolled into Morgantown by motor coach Tuesday at noon. Speaking on the courthouse lawn were Former Kentucky Governor and U.S. Senator, Wendell H. Ford; Kentucky first lady, Jane Beshear; Lt. governor candidate, Jerry Abramson; state auditor candidate, Adam Edelen; state treasurer candidate, Todd Hollenbach and agriculture commissioner candidate, Robert Farmer. Senator Ford was introduced by Hugh Evans.

Ms. Vicki Named Assessment Coordinator of the Year

Today was a great day for Butler County and South Central Kentucky. The Kentucky Association of Assessment Coordinators held its statewide conference in Louisville, and Ms. Vickie Givens Cook was recognized as the Assessment Coordinator of the year for the state of Kentucky.  "We are very pleased to make this announcement as Ms. Cook has served Butler County Schools in many different capacities over the last thirty years and has now received statewide recognition for her commitment and accomplishments," said Scott Howard, Butler County Supt.

Harvest On The Square

A beautiful day, children, family, friends, and visitors came together on Main Street on Saturday for Harvest on the Square, sponsored by the Morgantown-Butler County Chamber of Commerce. “We were pleased with the turnout of people and vendors,” said Amanda Hatcher, Chamber Director.

WRECC Holds Christmas Expo

Warren RECC held this year’s Christmas Expo in the Butler County Education Complex on Thursday evening, October 20, from 4 – 6 pm.  The event wasn’t all about Christmas, however.  In keeping with the cooperative’s emphasis on providing useful information to its members, two key note speakers were on hand to present strategies for preparedness.

Guilty Verdicts Returned Against Garcia, Staples

A 12-person jury on Friday returned guilty verdicts for first-degree manslaughter and first-degree criminal abuse against Brittany Garcia and Nicholas Staples for the 2009 death of Garcia's infant daughter, Angel Nicole Tucker.  The verdict, coming on the heels of a four-day trial, was returned in Butler County Circuit Court with Judge Ronnie Dortch presiding.  Commonwealth Attorney Tim Coleman was the prosecutor.

Grand Jury Indictments

The Butler County Grand Jury returned indictments on 17 individuals on October 18, 2011.  Charges include rape, sodomy, incest, drugs, assault and burglary.

Ferguson Enthusiasts Arrive

“As of 2:00 Friday afternoon we had over 90 entries with many more expected,” said Roger Tanner one of the organizers of the 2011 Ferguson Enthusiasts of North America East-Central show. The show runs Friday and Saturday at the Charles Black city park and is hosted by the Butler County Antique Engine and Tractor Club.

“We have vendors and entrants from such places as New York, Virginia, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and of course Kentucky,” Tanner continued. Another organizer, Troy Dunn, listed enough activities to keep attendees busy both days.

Boys & Girls Club's Annual Dinner

The Butler County Boys & Girls Club held their annual dinner at Kent Manor.  After a lovely dinner, guests listened to speeches given by two members of the Boys& Girls Club.

Mr. Harrison's Class Rocks!

“MES Rocks” is this year’s school theme at Morgantown Elementary.  Therefore, when Morgantown resident Kaitlin Harrison heard of a contest being sponsored by The Parent Teacher Store, 100.7 SAM FM, and 105.3 My WOVO, called Classes that Rock,  Kaitlin couldn’t help but think of her husband’s third grade class at Morgantown Elementary.  So, as soon as she made it to her computer, Kaitlin nominated Mr. Marcus Harrison’s Third Grade Class at Morgantown Elementary School as a Class that Rocks!
