Local Embalmer Attends Acclaimed Seminar

Michael B. Gary Jr. and Vernie R. Fountain, instructor.

Springfield, Missouri-  Michael B. Gary Jr. of Jones Funeral Chapel recently completed 31 contact hours of specialized embalming and reconstructive training as part of Fountain National Academy Training Facility, the seminar focused on highly skilled embalming techniques and included special surgical techniques. These techniques advanced the skill level of the professional embalmers attending regarding general embalming techniques and post-mortem reconstructive surgery techniques.

Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month

Judge Fields and Mayor Phelps declare October Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness month in Morgantown and Butler County.

On October 25, 1988, President Ronald Reagan designated October as Pregnancy & Infant Loss Awareness Month.  On Monday morning
Butler County Judge David Fields and Morgantown Mayor Billy Phelps signed a proclamation declaring October Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month in Morgantown and Butler County.
Mayor Phelps read the proclamation and thanked Katrina Sims for making him aware of this important issue.

BCHS Minority Special Election Results

Butler County High School parents elected Mrs. Rosalina Saldivar as the minority parent representative to the SBDM Council for the 2016-2017 school year.  Rosalina is the mother of sophomore student, Jackie Lugo-Salvidar.
Also, the faculty elected Mrs. Catron Burdette as an additional teacher representative to the BCHS SBDM Council.  Mrs. Burdette teaches Art here at the high school and she has been a part of the BCHS family since 2011.
Congratulations to both of these ladies.

MPD Make Drug Arrests

 Morgantown Police have been very busy as of late, with making arrests in town. James Ferguson of Morgantown was arrested for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol / drugs .08 first offense. The traffic stop was made in The Sawmill Road area. Chief of Police Giles Taylor explained, the officer found four Hydrocodone pills inside Ferguson's pant pocket.
Ferguson was lodged in the Butler County Jail on multiple charges.

MPD Make Drug Arrest

 Sergeant Denny Deweese, and Chief Giles Taylor of the Morgantown Police Department responded to Sunmark Apartments in regards to an individual that had an arrest warrant. When officer's arrived they came into contact with Brittany McKinney, she was wanted for a parole violation by the Kentucky Department of Corrections. During the course of the arrest and subsequent search of the residence/person, Drug paraphernalia, pills and a loaded syringe containing suspected methamphetamine was found.

Thursday’s chamber luncheon provided members and their guests with a chance to enjoy an excellent catered meal, fellowship, networking opportunities and an hour off from running their respective business. The time was filled with speakers and announcements of every kind.

Fire At Dunaway Timber In Roundhill Thursday Night

Dunaway Timber employee Darrell Glenn (with back turned) discovered the fire Thursday night.

Firefighters from both Edmonson and Butler Counties responded to a fire at Dunaway Timber Company at the crossroads in Roundhill Thursday evening around 8:30PM.
Darrell Glenn, a Dunaway employee said the fire started in an area where band saw blades were sharpened inside the sawmill. "I was down here putting logs up (just outside the mill) and when I turned around the corner it was already blazing," he said.

The Butler County Board of Education met in regular session on Tuesday, September 13, at Green River School.  Board members Amy Hood, Delbert Johnson, and Debbie Hammers were in attendance; Charles Price and Ryan Daugherty were unable to attend.
