Mayor Billy Phelps -Grade Card

Another year has passed and I believe it is important to keep the citizenry of Morgantown informed about all that has been going on in our city.  Last year, I released a “Grade Card” that illustrated each of the more noteworthy things accomplished.  And now It’s time for a grade card pertaining to the 2016 calendar year.  As a result of the collaboration between the mayor’s office and our dedicated
City Council, this is what has been accomplished over the past year:

•    Helped ARC to get 43 people hired on the spot during a job fair as well as 150 others hired over a period of only one week.
•    We completed mapping of the cemetery, and made that information available digitally.
•    We worked with the Kentucky Career Center to get youth jobs in Butler Co. and Morgantown
•    We implemented the Morgantown Renaissance Project, this project cleaned up property all over the city and much more.
•    We started Summer Movies at the Park where we showed 5 movies over 5 months all provided to the community at no cost.
•    We worked to get SST Manufacturing into Morgantown, this was a $3.5 million investment to our City as well as 50 new jobs.
•    The Autism Proclamation was finalized, along with
•    The Vietnam Veteran Recognition Proclamation, and
•    The Pregnancy and Infant Loss Proclamation.
•    We had installed ten new lights to further illuminate the road on US 231.
•    We started the Downtown Development Committee
•    We are planting 200 Japanese Yoshiono trees in the city.
•    We put Sponsored Benches on US 231
•    We completely over-hauled the entire International Building Code for the City
•    We worked to successfully secure a Grant providing funding that will develop city land
•    We applied for a $300,000 grant to renovate City Hall
•    We applied for a $100,000 grant to make the Eva Hawes Building a safe emergency space in the event of a disaster
•    AND many different Ordnances that effect the way the city operates.

We are already starting on projects for 2017!  So if you or anyone you know has any comments or suggestions, good or bad, please do not hesitate to call my office, or to come see me in person anytime at City Hall. My Cell 270-999-0117, City Hall 270-526-3557
